Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Well, I managed to get one of the bolts out of the steering box easy as hell. The bolt was so corroded into the aluminum spacer, that I used a chisel to get the aluminum turning, and it took the bolt out with it.

The other side just cracked unfortunately.

A power steering reservoir for a pre 97 XJ seems to work for a '99.

 wow.

Good luck with the other one, hope you can figure something out easily enough

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

anyone know offhand at how many inches of lift an xj needs a drop pitman?
i have a drop pitman hanging around wasting space.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

xj's shouldnt run drop pitman arms.

if you are at the height where you need one, I assume you have fairly large tires, which requires steering that can handle it, stock crap is not up to the task.

ok easy answer: 5.5" , where the stock crap begins binding

I'm not putting a waggy box in my daily driver. I did put an inner C-rok brace in though.

Well, got everything bolted back up, put fluid in the reservoir, and guess what, it leaks at where it mates to the pump. Ugh, I want to drive one of my pieces of sh*t.

I have a drop pitman arm on my trail rig, which has a D44 up front and high steer. I was going to run a waggy pitman arm, but I needed to switch back to an XJ drop pitman arm to get the drag link parallel to the trackbar. I have the RE trackbar bracket, and the TNT axle bracket meant for high steer on the TNT truss.

Im confused. XJs shouldnt run drop pitman arms or they shouldnt until there at least 5.5" ?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I looked and yeah I see the diff. between them. The ones are got have diff brackets probably all pre 96. Sorry

On your box with the busted bolts is the bolt flush with the ear? If the alum piece is coroded on just bah it off witha hammer and you should be able to grab the bolt with vise grips. Thats what I just had to do to a box a guy just bought.

I do have a box and pump together with hoses if you want to swap brackets.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I don't know the differences, but I just checked, and autozone lists 2 different part numbers for a 99 vs a 93.

I need to get some nitrile gloves, then I'm going to take off the reservoir and see if I can get it to seal properly.

Box is all set, already bolted back onto the vehicle. I took a cut of disc and started cutting into the part of the bolt that was threaded through the box. It heated it up enough to free the bolt.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

sweeet, finally decided to rip the whole exhaust off today. managed to break one of the studs on the header. i was surprised at how easy it was to get it out, little bit of heat on the flange to help things expend, then 2 shots with the hammer. it was so easy i decided to do the other side, even though it came out fine cause i figured it would probly snap tryin to tighten it back up. then i re-welded the stupid crossmember hanger back together. even gusseted it with some 1/8" to keep it from happening again
