THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It's not too late.

You could buy an NP435, keep your doubler setup, and buy the adapter to go from an NP435 to an NP231.

Now THAT would be sweet.

In the end though, it would probably be just as much to get an NV4500, which, IIRC, bolts up to an NP231.
sounds like a lot of work and $ in a direction that I'm no where near going...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I don't mind it. I'm not going to go through all the trouble to put in a 5-speed, I'd rather wheel what I have. And when I swap rigs I'm not going to hold out for either transmission, I'm going to jump on the best deal I can find and not care. Whether it has 2 or 3 pedals it makes no difference to me, I can do both and enjoy both so it's whatever. (Not a bitchy rant)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Sorta. I had a 2-wheel-drive 4500 from a Dodge diesel with 300k miles on it. Turned out to be one of those really expensive "free" things.

I had to change the input gear from the diesel version (1-1/4" x 10 spline) to the gas version (1-1/8" x 10 spline), swap out the 2wd mainshaft for the 4wd Dodge gas version (23-spline), and I bought the AA kit for the rest of it. This included the bellhousing adapter plate, trans mount, and tailhousing. Plus I replaced the bearings etc.

The adapter plate uses the old internal-slave bellhousing. The alternative for about 2x the money is the full bellhousing that AA makes to go from the 4.0 to the NV4500, but then you can use the external slave.

?

You couldn't do your doubler setup behind that...?
I could, but that seems like it would be a bit of extra work. and my axles aren't big enough for that.

No I don't blame you at all. Hell I wheeled my auto for 2+ years.

I just have fun with the debate back and forth (auto vs. manual) :D.

I don't claim to have the best setup either, I just found a deeply geared stick for cheap. I had no idea what I was getting into at the time.

Damn sounds expensive. Worked out pretty sweet in the end though.

Did you use that special fluid crap in it? I remember reading about it for my CTD. The fill plug hasn't been touched since it says you're never supposed to change it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Mhm, wheeling is wheeling to me. I "wheeled" a 2 wheel drive 5-speed ranger for a year. Then I found this Jeep and it was bought sight unseen. My Dad called me and said it was a 4x4, 4.0 with 108k for $20,0 no idea why it didnt run. I said yes please and had AAA tow it home for me.

Awesome, yeah I remember you telling me about that at Lobsters.

Wheeling to me is just about fun, I could care less if an auto is "easier", I had loads of fun wheeling Travis's XJ that time so I figured what the hell, I'll try it on the MJ.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You pretty much have to, or else the synchros turn into dust.

It takes around 5 quarts I think, and the stuff from the dealer is about $18-22 per quart. Amsoil makes an equivalent for a much more reasonable $10-$12 per quart.

I filled it when I first put it together...when I had it out for the stroker swap it fell off the trans jack and bled about 2 quarts on the ground, so I got a few more bottles and topped it off. Amsoil had a sale so I've got a couple extra quarts sitting around.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just like to wheel and drive. To me if you truely know your vehicle it doesnt matter what transmission it has, you can keep it in gear and drive it how you want. I can't understand how people always say "You have more controll and you can feel the vehicle better with a standard." Shit's all the same to me.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yeah, that's the one. i'm just too lazy to do it. I want to go home and fix the stupid mistake I made with the welding cart last night.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

wtf, I just dug a metal splinter out of my finger... I haven't done any metalworking since like Saturday.

Hey Mark - if you have time or know the answer quick (you know 91 alarm systems way better than I do) this guy is asking what appears to be a simple question. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?p=245078719#post245078719
