THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm buying Crown springs as soon as I get paid for the construction work I did. I looked at them today and they must have made them for offroading for people that beat the shit out of there jeeps in SOA setups. They're 1000 times beefier in everyway.

If you can find that aluminum you are the man. It will save me $100 that I can't really afford.
I just remembered I actually have a piece of 1/4" or so thick diamond plate aluminum around somewhere, not sure where. You will have to convince someone to mill the diamonds off one side but I can easily chop off a piece for you, I don't even remember what project it was for.

If not that, one of my friends who still goes to WPI will probably raid the scrap-metal cart in the machine shop there. The lab monitors are really overzealous about tossing stuff on that cart and it just gets melted down, I've built entire projects with materials from it before.

I'll one up Ken here and say you can beat up my rig via smashing asteroids while exploring space.
hahahaha

Thanks for the offers Ken and Travis, but I need to spend time working on my crapcan this weekend if I ever want it to be done.

Hopefully this weekend I can pound out the rest of the inner plating.
understandable. I'm hoping to get the massivemobile rolling again this weekend (probably Saturday after a junkyard run) though I still need to get insurance/registration figured out.

if i had a gooseneck trailer, i woulda soo offered to tow just to look wicked cool and see how much ass the dirtymax can kick.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I wouldn't put another set of gears in a 30, you seem to have bad luck with them.

Either that or tap the carrier for a proper cross shaft retention bolt OR toss a full case locker in at the same time.

EDIT: Ross - it weighs 10 tons empty. I would love to see the dirtymax tow that... and stop it effectively! I'm not sure, but I think it may somewhat exceed the tow rating.

Carmelo - the guys on campus have their eyes peeled for it, will let you know.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

CALL YOUR BOSS BILLY. I NEED TO KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

but remember to put diff lube in it, because I stole all of it to put in my rig :shhh:

no biggie. 100dollarman tows them similarly with no problem. no reason the dirtymax couldnt.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

DO IT RIGHT NOW!!!!
Not enough mulah to buy a new carrier, gears and a master install kit :(

I am pretty set on doing this, I think I'm gonna start a thread in mod tech to see how other people have done it and what not

I'm not gonna waist my money on a full case locker for the 30, gonna save up and start building a front d44
i have a 2wd beam in my driveway that is currently geared to WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT :woohoo:

ATLEAST THERES NO GEARS TO FAWK UP!!!

Measure the run-out on that carrier before you waste another set of gears on it. If you have excessive runout it'll either become obvious during gear setup and you won't get any further, or it'll wreck the new gears with a quickness. Also make sure the cross shaft holes aren't egged/beat up/elongated, which would point towards the carrier being stretched or bent or weakened. A new carrier from national drivetrain was like 50 bucks when I picked one up, made by Motive Gear. You can also pull one from any Grand Cherokee with 3.73s, which I *think* is many of the V8s but I might be pulling that right out of my ass.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah I'm just going to buy a brand new carrier so I dont have to deal with any of that bs

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I wouldn't buy a new carrier if you can find a decent used one. Master Install Kit clearly needs to be bought new.

EDIT: oh... and make setup bearings... and use non staked nuts on the pinion for setup (3/4-16 UNF thread, just measured, I was wrong when I stated 7/8-18.)

its probably gunna cost less then the phone call i have to make again in 30-45 mins.

well if you wanna add a set of 4.56 gears for an hpd30 along with the appropriate master install kit, I'll buy you a beer or somethin :dunno:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I dont think Ballistic carries gears n junk :dunno:

I'm definately gonna need some help when setting everything back from someone, as this will be a new venture for me and gears are something that i dont want to XXXX up.

dana/spicer carrier is 69.99 new and a yukon carrier is 57.37, any reasons to use one over the other :dunno:

yukon makes a carrier?

i would probably go with the spicer. yukon shafts suck a big one
