Selling the stupid chevy means it has to drive properly first

selling the stupid chevy also = me buying a truck (most likely) or another project muscle car to play with (READ: 1968 MOPAR .!.:D.!.)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

OMG!!! so that just made me remember something. a certain built small block ford will be installed into a certain 66 mustang very soon (if all goes according to plan)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'd be going if I wasn't picking up a new rig.

That's what I call extenuating circumstances. No worries there, sir. :viking:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

nope, not when you live 5 minutes away and have another vehicle you can drive. "picking up the garage" can be handled at 830pm, doesn't have to be right at 7 when the meeting's goin on...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

No I have to move stuff from the garage under the house to the big garage. So it makes it a PITA. I'll probably end up going anyways though.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I go back and forth with creepers.

You can't be on one and try to put leverage into anything...you just roll. It's annoying and funny at the same time.
picked this up today. rolls over the few cracks in my floor just fine. the wheels are large enough. totally worth the $20.

Ken, i'll be returning those long vise grips tomorrow. They suck.

Looks like I sold my other camera lens on craigslist. That was quick...

I started making doubler parts... and screwed up the clocking ring. Had to fill in 3 of the holes  But ohmahgawd i <3 drill press, lube, and sharp HSS drill bits. cuts sooo nice. And, I think I've decided I'm better at stick welding than mig. Maybe I'm not, maybe it's the 220V vs 110V. If anyone decides to take up stick welding, look into 6013 rods. They're awesome for clean metals.

side note... I really need to redo my driveshafts so I can go wheeling at some point...

Grab the extension bar or wrench head or whatever with your other hand. It's good to do this anyways, helps put more even, on-axis torque on instead of twisting sideways and rounding things off, at least for me. If you need both arms, use a longer cheater bar or brace with your knee instead of other hand.

Yeah they're fairly terrible. Did you learn stick first or what? I've heard it's harder, I was spitting some pretty ugly boogers with mine before I blew it up and got my fluxcore. Might give stick another try if I can find one for uber cheap, now that I've got Ken's Ghetto Garage going in the construction site parking lot right outside my window and can weld again.

I just put an entire large size cartridge of grease into the massivemobile. It has grease fittings at the leaf eyes, both ends of shackles, kingpins, TREs, lower drag link ends, drag link pivot arm, upper drag link ends, all 8 u-joints (which are about 9" across ), both slip joints, and about 4 on the emergency brake mechanism. And that's just the ones I managed to find.

Also prepped to install some 12v accessory outlets (for gps, phone charger, etc) and I think I fixed the temp gauge. Looks like the headlights both need replacing, lowbeams are dead and it's not the switch or wiring.

Bought oil for it too, that really hurt, it takes 22 quarts of 15w40 for a full change.

Next I think I'll tackle replacing the hoses on the wiper cylinders and maybe change the diff lube... Probably going to end up buying that in 5 gallon pails.

I still gotta stop and talk to the folks on the way home from work about the 'cuda thats been sitting in their yard all summer. I see cars come and go from that house so often I wouldn't be surprised if they are going to try and unload it sooner or later. I did see paper on the windshield today (facing away from the road) so maybe soon? I'm keeping an eye on that one, I kinda want even though it clearly needs a lot of work.

I can't say I am surprised with how much oil it takes, but still just hearing that number is a 'god damn' type of thing :laugh3:. And same with the diff lube, would def spend the $$ and buy it in bulk. I almost tried to find somewhere to buy 5 gallons for the XJ so I can swap frequently (once I start wheeling, if ever )

And I realized that today/tomorrow I actually wont be getting much done on the XJ since my buddy moved home from TX. Helped him move some of his stuff today so I didn't get anything done. Plan on bolting up the rear bumper tomorrow (w/o unibody tie-ins) and hopefully everything on the front bumper still lines up right. Then fill the diffs and be ready to drive to work on thurs morning and go to the show thurs night. Only possible catch in that plan is if the front bumper brackets don't line up but I am hoping.... other catch is that the town friends all hang out and do trivia at the bar on wed night so I have to be done with the bumpers/diffs by 7:30-8 at the latest so I can be to the bar by 8:30, so hopefully I can skip out of work early-ish.

Oh and I was greatly amused tonight. Apparently when my buddy was packing his car he realized he didn't have enough space for everything (but was quite close).. so he took out his passenger seat and dropped it in the nearest dumpster  He weighed a couple boxes and figured it was cheaper to buy a miata seat from a JY or pick up a set of aftermarket seats on CL than it would be to ship the comparable amount of stuff from TX. I guess it makes sense seeing as this was the guy who introduced me to XJs :D

Hahahaha, he dumpstered a seat after checking the cost of each approach? Gotta be an engineer.

I still haven't found where to get oil and fuel filters, need to do those soon too.

I'd be willing to bet it's the 220 vs 110. Once I got the 220 outlet installed and tried it for the first time, I was like holy $@#@. For whatever reason it seems 10x easier.

You've clearly never removed a pinion nut.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So I just realized theres approximately no chance of me showing up with the XJ tomorrow. Last night I completely forgot that I snapped a steering box bolt and I highly doubt I will be getting that out tonight.

Do you have the stock spacer? If you do, do you have another one?

Did it snap off flush with the spacer?

If all the above is true, you can crumble the spacer around the bolt with a hammer/chisel and take it out with a pair of vice grips. Heat would help as well.

That's an easy fix.

x2.

Colin, I bet you're right about 110 vs 220...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Just ordered my gauges for my truck.

0-40 psi boost
0-30 psi FP (with isolater, and hose mount kit to tap into the test port on the IP)
100-1500*F EGT

A-pillar mount with Mopar trim paint to match.

$400 after shipping, guy gave me a bit of a discount. They're not crappy gauges (ISSPRO).

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

awesome. that's pretty sweet. i want to go home and work on my junk. That cutting fluid you told me about works pretty damn well.
