smells like progress.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

im thinkin i want 1/4-3/8" thickness at a minimum under the lowest point with like roughly 1/8" between the teeth and inside for oil flow. i really just kinda winged the cut. the tricky part will be making the patch piece to fit, follow the contour, clearenced inside for the ring gear, and have some mounting bolts. i have the feeling some grinding and cutting wheels will make the ulimate sacrafice for the bottom

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

are you going to weld the bottom piece on or bolt it on? i would weld it. i've never seen one bolted on. you'd shear the heads right off.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Just got home from getting some DOM plus visiting my old college and some hangouts. Met up with a couple profs to see how shit was going, stopped by hot table for an amazing panini, then walked over to the bar for a couple beers. It was a good night so far. Now I'm bored. Time to go get DOM out of the car. I am happy, I expected 20 ft but got 24 :D So I have 14 feet to work with instead of 10... and I expect to be using right around 10 so without the extra 4 feet Iwould have had to make every cut perfect the first time with no room for error (I usually cut a hair long and grind down if needed

i need a new angle grinder. the wires on mine are split and sparking. dewalt or milwaukee? i've used both and can't decide.
Out of those two I would go dewalt. I like my dewalt AC sawzall. It's the shit. Though I have been beating the living piss out of my black and decker wally world one that I picked up for $20 or so.. still going strong. Only part that broke was the side handle thing when it fell off my workbench onto concrete  looking to buy or make a replacement soon. Otherwise the grinder is still going strong and hasn't given me one problem yet.

bolts?!?! where did you get that idea?? theres no question that ill be welding it on, i just dont know what process i wanna use. i could run some passes with the MIG, toss some Ni99 rod in the stick, or max out marks TIG twice over

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ross im interested to see what you do to prevent the cover from being peeled off on rocks.

cuz if it works im gonna do the same

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

god damn tonight just keeps getting better. First I get more tube than I expected to, then I get good food and beer, then I get home and find my federal tax returns came in (more moneys!!! :D) along with these:

:D:D:D Maybe I can work on my steering tomorrow if I don't get super lazy (unless of course my parents hi-jack the garages which theres a chance of. The scouts have one of their bottle drives again and it's raining. If it's still raining tomorrow they will probably jack the garages. Damnit. Come-on clear weather!

i was thinking about having the bottom piece run past the cover mounting surface and having the cover "sit" on top of it, but i dunno. something like ballistic's setup is cool stuff, between the thick-ass bottom piece and the bottom of the cover being at least 3/8" with some good bolts, im not really worried about peeling issues. ive seen cool stuff down with curved bottom pieces, but the extra effort isnt worth it for me. i could run my 3/4" bottom plate past and mill it in half to create a nice lip to have under the cover. ill cut down my ruffstuff cover so the bolts are receased and the bottom sloped sides finish off smooth with no cover flange like the rest of the cover.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

what kinda sucks about my 14b is that i have a newer style housing. they have all the ribs on the top and bottom, they piss me off. bottom ones screw with my shave and plating job i wanna do and the top ones will need to be all notched for the truss i wanna do. i may just cut them all off

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Question for storing steel... is it relatively OK as long as it stays dry? Aka I currently have the DOM laid out across the raised concrete lip at the back of the garage... that OK?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

if its DOM, oil it down and keep it in a dry spot outta the way. ive got some DOM thats just been chillin out in the container for almost a year, nothing special done at its still cool. i just have my rect tubing for the trusses chillin outside under a halfass cover, nothing a flap wheel cant solve.

is there any oil that works better than others (or clean off easier)? It was oiled from the steel yard, but I am sure some of that wiped off while moving it around. If I don't end up using it this wkend I will oil it, otherwise it should be good for a couple days I would guess.

I got about 4' 3" of 3"x [just shy of] 1/4".. maybe it is 1/4", though I think 3/16" rings a bell for some reason. Doubt that will help you much but I got it if needed.
