Sweet deal. Gotta look at a 97 VW Golf today to tell the guy he's a knob and is asking way too much for his car.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

How are you all not fat. I am fat and I try to eat healthy. Like salads for lunch and shit.

And I think I just committed to buying a 89 mustang saleen. My buddy bought the car last summer for $7k or so (got it for a steal, it was just appraised at $13k two years ago, in amazing condition at 35k original miles).

He recently had a fire under the dash due to (we are guessing) the kill switch the PO had wired in. The dash is burnt and im guessing the wiring is shot.

Insurance totaled it and gave him like $8k for it. They want $1k to buy it back... he is snapping a few more detailed photos for me later today. He would buy it back but has no-where to keep it (he lives in an apt complex in TX now) and he doesn't have the $$ on hand to buy it back.

I am paypal'ing (or BOFA $$ transfer) him $2000 to cover the car plus shipping to my house, should be about $1800 total. Already have emails out to a few people parting out stangs to get the dash/wiring. Gonna fix it up and either sell it or keep it. Haven't decided yet. I just hope my parents understand the fact that I need to get this car and won't let it go to a junkyard... I was stunned when my buddy said that insurance was coming to pick it up on friday. I quickly told him that he needs to call them and tell them there's a change in plans. haha

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Good luck.

Buy an FSM for it ASAP.

Hope you have a ton of patience.

All I did was rip out a harness and delete things I didn't want (didn't need to repair anything) and it still took me two full weekends of 12 hour days each. I barely touched the engine side harness.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

my god.

The person who wrote the code I'm inheriting put code in headers, instead of just prototypes.

I can see this is going to be a long project...

(no, that's not really a big deal, but that's like watching your mechanic put your lug nuts on with an impact wrench... you know it's just not a good sign)

The last project I inherited had code files #included instead of headers, and no ifdef shielding, though, so it's a step up.

Thanks. Hopefully wont be TOO bad since I hope to be able to pull the parts/harnesses from a donor vehicle and directly swap them into this one. I don't know how much was changed between the standard GT and the Saleen package. However difficult it is, it will be VERY worthwhile. I will not let that car go to a JY. Apparently there was a guy out in Chicopee who was talking to my buddy and got the quote of $800 for shipping from TX to here... He didn't end up buying it cause it was too much trouble (my friend doesn't have the $$ to buy the car back from insurance himself and this guy wouldn't give him $$ until the car was purchased from insurance... kindof a catch 22).

I may have my friend get in touch with him again and see if he is still interested. If he is interested I will pay the $$ to get the car from insurance and get it shipped up here. I will also fly to TX to hang out for a wkend and get the title signed over. I can then deal locally with the guy in Chicopee and eliminate all the $$ trouble. IIRC my buddy said some guy was going to pay like $5-$7k for it. If it is the same guy I could turn $5000 profit for nothing. Split that with my friend in TX and call it a day. I deal with no real hard stuff and make bank.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just got back from putting 20 miles on the new tires. I like em :D Esp towards the end of the ride once they started breaking in a bit. Give it another 30-50 miles before I start pushing it at all. Front is *a bit* bigger than stock so I think I am going to drop the front forks 1-1.5" in the triple trees and quicken the steering a bit. Overall they feel great. $480 well spent. I gotta do an oil change and clean the carbs though. I can't recall if I Mentioned it yesterday but I noticed a bit of discoloration on one of the exhaust pipes so apparently I am running a bit lean. I threw some of that sunoco ultra 93 in there and idk if it's liking that. From now on I will stick with mobile or comparable 91 octane.

Also I have always had this bit of a buzzing sound cause the fuel tank cover vibrates against something. If I Put my hand on the tank cover it goes away. I think I will be pulling the cover off and adding some of that foam padding that has tape/glue on one side to hte bottom of the cover. See if that helps. The buzzing is starting to get annoying this year, haha.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ugh. so in my process of trying to fix my screwed up install of my aussie, i managed today in around two hours of swearing and yelling at the pins to swap places (to where htey should be) of two of the pins/springs. the other two are the ones where i can't get leverage to pry the pin out, since the ring gear is in the way. what i need is a cotter pin pick or something, but autozone was out of those today. damn. attempt 2: tomorrow!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Carmelo - so uh, you are damn good at alignments and IFS/IRS from what I recall. A friend of mine has a 97 Audi Quattro A4 AWD, he was driving it two days ago and heard a loud sort of pop/bang and now it makes grinding noises when he goes over bumps. The rear left wheel is at about a 15 degree angle from vertical. What do you think broke? I looked at it and to me it looked like the coil on the strut was bowed out toward the inside of the vehicle but I wasn't sure and I couldn't see anything damaged.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

strut could be bent Ken, or a bent trailing arm. Compare everything to the other side to see if anything is bent.

-Mel (really Adam though)
