THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Needs to be the weekend now.
Xamillion, I want to be driving to pennsylvania already. I looked at the prices and realized I could buy a really nice 20 degree sleeping bag and a good hammock for what it'd cost to stay in a hotel for 2 nights, so I got the camping gear.

and the weekend weather is supposed to be not that amazing.
It's looking OK for the trailcut, at least so far.

That reminds me... I gotta get all the random crap out of the back of the MJ tonight. It's still got the remains of two axles and a bunch of trash and junk floating around back there from the swap last weekend.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i should have ridden my motorcycle today :( i just need to fill the tires and lube the chain. needs an oil change too but i'll do that over the weekend or something.
x2. I spent last weekend doing all that pre-season prep stuff. I was ahead of the game and cleaned the carb on the XT350 2-3 weeks ago. Last wkend was filling the tires, lubing chain, checking oil (no change yet), and a quick cleaning (idc about this bike really, it's not pretty).
The FZX got tires filled, a much more thorough cleaning (cleaned all the chrome, etc), all over inspection, etc, still needs chain lubed though. Probably doing an oil change soon and noticed a bit of rot/splitting on the front tire while filling so both front/rear will be new sooner than later, maybe even Saturday if I decide to not be lazy.

I really hope this kid comes with cash tonight to buy my bike. I'm just not smart enough to keep it with out hurting myself. Honda Ruckus here I come!

And this is exactly why I have kept myself from buying a bike so far.

Thought I was, learned I wasn't while picking it up in my driveway. I've been on dirtbikes and ATVs for more than 10 years and have raced a few MX races. Street is a whole 'nother story. I'll get another when I'm a little taller(feet barely touch ground) and I mature a little more after I'm out of school.

Make sure to bring a tarp to line the hammock. Probably wouldn't be bad to have a tarp and a thicker blanket. Sleeping in a hammock you will get cold MUCH faster. A 20 degree bag won't be warm enough for anywhere near 20 degree weather in a hammock, esp if there is any wind/breeze. Tarp to block wind, blanket to insulate the area under you a bit better. I am actually looking into getting a hammock and stuff myself in the near future. I am eventually hoping to build a roll cage for the XJ and be able to hang the hammock inside of the XJ. (open the tailgate and put an attachment in the trailer hitch, then hang the hammock from the front of the cage to the tailgate attachment thing. That way I would have the Jeep/tailgate over me in case it was raining. Plus I could set up anywhere without having to set up a stand or find trees.) But that little plan is way down the line, I won't have a cage for at least a year or 2. For now I am getting a hammock and finding trees.

Good plan. I got my first bike a couple months after I graduated and it was only a 350. I am very glad I learned on that thing, learning on a larger bike would have been a completely different story. Plus my 350 was a beater so I didn't mind laying it down. And it was a dual sport so I could play in the woods. It was the perfect learning bike IMO

I laughed at the thought of me on a 350 (I'm not a small guy), but it ended up doing alright for me. I wish I could have afforded an '03 bike back in school just because that would have meant I actually had some $$... actually I wish I could afford an '03 bike now :gee:

It's ok though, I like my '86 and I spent a hell of a lot less than I would have on a newer bike. I now have 2 bikes and spend $1200 on both combined (excluding cost of parts such as tires/chain that I had to buy for the 350).:D

No need, the temps are gonna be in the mid 30s. I slept comfortably in my kid-sized summer sleeping bag last November and when I woke up it was 25... *in* the tent. I was fine till I got out of the bag. This is a mummy sleeping bag that I'll fit in, and rated to 20, so I should be quite comfortable. The hammock I got has a built in mosquito net (not much use for weather though) and if I bring a tarp, it's being used to keep rain off me, not to block wind.
