Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I really should get off NAXJA and do my essay for my class that startes in 20 minutes.
school should come first, because completing school leads to more money being made later on which leads to better stuff to buy for the jeep and THEN you can prioritize correctly, Life-Jeep-Play-Work
right now im at Work-Life-Play-Jeep

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have to say, every time I see the DWE site URL I misread it "deep wood sex team" for some reason and get a bit confused

Bill - you're gonna love this, the place in fitchburg might not go through... but I just found a fixer upper in westminster for 60k on an acre of land. I'm not sure how exactly I missed it searching previously, it has to have something severely wrong with it.

Is it the one on the corner of Elliot St and Main St? That lost it's service lines during the icestorm last year and they were never put back up. I don't think its had heat since then. Pipes probably aren't doing so hot.
Or is it the white one with the porch on Ellis Rd? IIRC, that place is small, but seems alright. Never checked it out.

Neither are far from me at all.

haha wow, you're good. It's the one on Ellis Rd. I'm probably going to cruise out there tomorrow night and take a look at it, then call my real estate agent if it looks good. It's been listed as a summer cottage, so I'm not sure it'll have enough space to store all my crap, might have to keep a storage unit for a bit longer.

EDIT - also, it apparently has a well and a septic system. I'm betting the septic system is completely screwed, but hoping I'm wrong.

that's only about the millionth time it's happened haha. I think everyone reads it like that. The site is actually blocked on some people's work computers because the filters even get confused :gee:

Travis is the team captain

Billy beat me to it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

random question...
anyone know how thick the LCA brackets on a stock d30 are before the rust monster gets to them? Also useful would be what grade steel they are but that's not something I can really expect. I know 1/8 barstock from Lowes has made mine stronger than it was when I bought it, but I'm wondering what I should use when I chop the rusty brackets off and build some new ones. My welder can't weld anything much thicker than 1/8, so this might result in me getting a better welder while I'm at it.

EDIT: it *looks* like 10ga or 1/8, but I'm not really sure.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah that's a good plan.

And tell your friend to buy my Kumhos already! If he doesn't take them by the weekend, Sam gets 'em.

I'm impatient. :D
Dont wait on him. Let Sam buy them. This kid doesn't answer his phone. The only way to talk to him is in person.
Sam they're all yours!

My opinion?
Don't waste you time replacing them with anything smaller than 3/16". Do it once do it right (ok, so a second time for you). Grade? You don't really need to be to concerned about the grade of steel for our uses (especially on a D30) unless you are trying to waste cash. Just some "Plain Jane" 1018 cold roll will be fine, but A-36 would be plenty as well.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i'm at work and won't be able to watch it. but i'll bet that that's the one that's the xj in like ohio getting pulled out with a tow strap by a diesel.

No, this one is way better. Makes that XJ look like a Barbie Jeep

Thanks - especially on the grade, I was worrying about that. My current axle is still :gee:-fabbed together just well enough to last till I have some time. If I get lucky and pick up a d30/8.25 with 4.10s this Saturday, I'll be ripping all the rusty stuff off them and replacing with all new brackets done right (either 3/16 if I can manage to weld that, or gusseted/braced 1/8 if I can't), repainting to keep the rust away, then spending an evening cutting bolts and throwing the new axles in. Else I'll have to wait for a time when I can afford to take it off the road for a few days and fix it then.
