Agreed. I was told by Summit Racing this morning that an 8" rim is too narrow for a 12.50 tire. However, while ordering the Mickey T's at America's Tire, I saw firsthand that Summit gave me bogus info. A built YJ in the parking lot had 12.50 KM2's and 8" MTs and it looked great.

12.5 width tires and 8" width rims are a popular combo, this is what I run in the 33" flavor.

Technically a 12.5 tire is only certified for a 8.5" min width wheel, so summit didn't give you bad info. Just gave you the answer straight out of the book.

When you air down you want the tire to hold the rim but the tread to get more rubber to the ground or a larger foot print. It is harder for a 12.5 to loose a bead on a 8" or a 7.5" rim because the wider tire holds to the thinner rim and keeps the junk out, less mud/sand/sticks/dirt to get in the rim because of all the extra tire on the thin rim. This is why we will use a the smaller rim and a wider tire. If you run a 10.5 tire on a 10" rim, you will not be able to air down below 18psi with out loosing a bead on every little tire fold.

Now if you have bead locks you will want to go with a wider rim, a wider rim will give your wider tire a larger foot print and the larger the foot print the better the traction.

People at tire and rim shops do not understand rock crawling and off roading, they look at books for what is best for road conditions.

I ran 33's on some 8 in wide eagle alloys on my old cherokee for about a year and a half. Never lost a bead or had problems, even with psi as low as 10 in the snow. I was very happy with them.

I'm ultimately going to order the 8" rims. All I was saying earlier was that Summit Racing explained that an 8" rim wont work with a 12.5" tire, but I have since learned better, thanks to my swell pal Letterman and many others. I really want the Mickey Thompson Classic II's but I will need to wait until March to get them due to back order. I'm still looking for something comparable that is in stock.

My tire shop didn't question 11.5" tires on 7" rims.

Crap. Mickey Thompson Classic II's are on national back order. Just bought a set and found out I would need to wait until March to get them in....now looking for something similar.

How about Mickey Thompson Sidebiter? These are not available until mid Feb.

American Racing Mojave rims look good but the price is getting steep.

I also like these Eagle alloy 185 series rims.

Agreed... American Eagle series 185... is a good looking wheel and should be cheaper than a comparable MT

Yeah, I agree... steel with welded beadlock rings and a nice looking set of daily drivers on these would be a great combo. If you wanted a nice inexpensive set of beatable aluminums I would go for a set of Eagle 058's in polished aluminum, no finish and a decent look.

A guy on Craig's List has a set of their version 1.0 brackets for about 100 bucks. I opted for the new V 2.0 set for $130 shipped.

Version I is what I installed. Happy with the install and the final product. Not sure why he felt an updated version was required. I have heard good things regarding them though. The best thing about the relocation brackets is how well they work with longer springs. Congrats!
