The Final Straw on Climate Change Lies???

you would trash fox, most freedom haters do. Tell me urban, have you ever served your country? Trust me, it's a rhetorical question, I already know the answer.

FOX = America's Al-Jazerra. Period. I didn't make that up, stole it from an US Army major. The real threat to Freedom is the "my way or the highway" attitude prevalant by the FOX following crowd. The FOX following crowd is just as rigid about their stance as the folks they so easily label "Tree Huggers".

Oh and before you ask your rhetorical question I have served my country proudly for over 35 years, Active and Reserve.

and global warming is a threat to our national security.

thats too easy. The troops stood with GWB because he had ideals that are easy for the troops to identify with. They stand against Obama because they are not smart enough to conceive the goodness and superiority of his policies. Buch of retards if you ask me, the whole lot of 'em.

Yeah, ideals like honesty, strength, and honor. Those are foreign to Obama and his goodness and superiority. He's his biggest supporter! And he's done a fine job so far. They can't all be as brilliant as the air force recruits!

Actually, that is a pretty damn good analogy. People say that through core sampling of ice we can generate accurate records for eons, but I believe they are full of shit.
Agreed. The ice in those cores that was deposited during our period of actual measurements is simply not long enough to compare to the layers below it, in my opinion. Of course, I'm no expert.

The earth has been in a warming period since the last ice age started to receed, It stands to reason that as the last of the ice melts it would infact be warmer by a few degrees, causing the last of the polar caps to melt faster.

That said we will get another ice age following the complete melt of the last ice age
as this is a cycle they know the earth follows, Seems the media has overlooked this interesting fact.
I do believe we need to worry about the health of our air and water not the temperture the earth runs at.
This is the theory I subscribe to... FYI, by all accounts we're late for the next ice age anyways. Better hope we have enough oil to burn to stave it off for a while, guys ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ice_Age_Temperature.png - see those nice temp peaks, followed by slow declines then large declines? We're about the same distance past the peak as the last 3 peaks. Maybe the "the sky is falling" types DID have it right in the 70s when they claimed we were about to go into another ice age. Who knows? I doubt there is much we can do about it at this point.

Did we trigger the next ice age by causing temperatures to spike? Probably not, if so, what explains the last three triggers? Did the sun cause it? Probably had a big part of it, the sun puts out far more energy than anything else near us and has a huge effect on the earth's temperature. I doubt anyone really has the answers, so live life and hope they figure it out, and even better, figure out how to make it stop happening.

EDIT: on the upside... I guess I'll be able to vacation in hawaii sooner, I can afford winter tires better than I can afford plane tickets.

That is kind of funny.

I have known Tom for a few years and while politically we don't agree on everything, the last thing I would call him is stupid.

In fact he is one of the smartest wrong people I know. :D

Sorry Doc, that's a much kinder way of saying it, and I should learn from you. However to say climate change is an issue of national security, while I'm sure Tom is quite bright, is asinine. However, look who's in the whitehouse.

Actually, I have heard his reasoning before, and it is quite sound, assuming the scenario comes to realization.

Oh, and those air force recruits are the stupidest of the lot. Don't listen to a word any of them say.

However to say climate change is an issue of national security, while I'm sure Tom is quite bright, is asinine.

My last assignment prior to being let loose to terrorize bus mechanics was to be paranoid so you don't have to. I won't spell out the details, but it is in the not good category. I could say trust me, but you have already shown you're close minded about this topic. I felt the same way about global warming until a couple of years ago when I ended up on staff. I have no idea if humans are causing it, speeding its progress or what..but it is happening.

Thanks Ryan. I have always been green in a gas saving, recycling & composting type of way. Funny thing, my neighbors all think I am very conservative because of my military affiliation, patriotic stances and I want nuclear energy brought on line. Here on NAXJA I'm a lefty. :dunno:

That's odd. The only thing I had you pegged as left-leaning on was unions. I agree with being environmentally friendly, just not on the CO2 credits / cap & trade level.

Personally I'm pretty sure I'm to the left of a few here, though I consider myself a fiscal conservative, civil libertarian, and strict constitutionalist (to the point that those can be combined) so ..!..:D..!..

You live in San Fransisco. The way I see it, you can't be left enough there unless you stark raving mad.

I've always just given you a pass because I figured living there long enough would cloud anyone's judgment. :D

I apologize for the misunderstanding Mr. Boatwrench, I was not calling you stupid, merely suggesting that you had the right to be so. No hard feelings, and thanks for your service.

Explain?

Nevermind, I don't want you popping a blood vessel in your noodle-noggin, so I'll elaborate instead:
For arguments sake let's just say that global warming isn't our fault, but rather a naturally occurring phenomena. It still doesn't change the fact that we have a problem on our hands from: flooding, shoreline erosion, displaced populations, droughts, failed crops, power grid disruptions, etc. All those issues have a serious impact on our way-of-life; therefore, they impact our security. It doesn't matter whether I die from a terrorist attack or a flood. Dead is dead.

I liken global warming to swimming in a public pool. Even if you're not the guy who pissed in the pool, you still have the problem of being in stuck in a pool full of piss. Now, you might have a fetish for golden showers, but most us would recognize there's a problem, and request they break out the chlorine.

Simple end to the argument here:

Global Warming/Climate Change = wrong. In every way. The global climate WILL CHANGE both ways whether we want it to or not, NO MATTER WHAT WE DO. See: giant nuclear reactor 93 million miles away. Face it, you can't stop global climate change in either direction. End the dumbass debates now.

What we can do:

Limit our pollution. You will never prove that "greenhouse gasses" affect global climate, one way or the other. What we CAN prove is that we deserve to have cleaner air to breathe, water to use and land to live on. Quit drumming up "schemes" to try and make money off of having a cleaner, more responsible society. There's nothing wrong with encouraging clean energy, but quit trying to trick/fool/guilt society into thinking it is because of "global climate change" - make it about everything being clean - for our generation and the next generations.

For the love of God, quit your bickering back and forth - you'll never convince Rod or Urban that global warming ISN'T real, and you'll never convince people with plain common sense that it is. ;)

But we can agree on a cleaner living environment all around....

^ I like that.

While I think it's stupid to think humans are the sole reason for global warming I also think it's stupid to think we haven't made a significant impact on this planet.

Everything has a limit. Once we foul up this planet to the point where it can no longer sustain everything, we're all XXXXed anyways.

So you have no common sense? In the 1st paragraph you say it is happening, then in the 3rd you say that people with plain common sense will never be convinced it is. Just messin with ya.

The middle paragraph about limiting the pollution is well thought out and written. Thank you for that contribution.
