The Cliffs

I think it is for Federal or State Grant Funds, offered to help support small business owners. I don't think CLiffs are having any financial problems. For them to take this money Obama will make them do something for the money...like reduce rates. Once you take the money you are beholden to Big Brother. I could be worng, thats the way I see it.

I would hate to have the cliffs close as Im only 1/2 hour away and I like the trails their. Ive made a lot of friends down their too.

x2 if the cliffs close i really have no other place to wheel im about 45min away....

redbird and the bad lands are quite a trip for me...

im going to sign it and if they dont stay open then i guess someday i will have to buy some swampy land to wheel on! lol

comon guys lets keep it open!!

i didnt think they owned the land so i'm not sure how this would work. i thought they leased it

Not true....

The online grant petition is a guy from the Mud Turtles who wants the grant so he can try to buy the Cliffs from Steve Flynn who is the current owner.

Steve told me last week he has no immediate intentions or need to sell. I'm there almost every other weekend. Steve has his OWN petition in the office at the park. Of course he'd like some Gov money if he could get it. It would pay off the land for him.

You really want to help a place stay open... IMHO, don't bother signing a petition politicians could give a rats ass about! Shut off the computer, fix your junks and hit the trails!!!! People on the trails, means money into the park. Steve spends a hell of a lot of time making repairs to that place all week long. It's come a loooong way.

Gas is back to $2 a gallon. The park is a completely different place than it was when it opened. YES, there is MUD, but there are also some trails, ravines and hills that will challenge tube buggies with 44's. The place is no longer a tree slalom course. Trail #1 is no longer just an access road. There are many many new trails, some I just "discovered" this Spring. It's easy to get lost in some areas! Believe it or not, that can be fun!

If you haven't been there in some time, you should give it a try. Not necessarily after a couple inches of rain... but. (like this last Sunday)

I have to say, I'll put many trails at the Cliffs way better than Orange and White at the Badlands. Many parts of the Badlands are "played out" in my opinion. Does it have a quarry, NO but, 3 hours one way or 30 minutes one way..... hmmmmmmm. No sand dunes and 300 kids on quads or bikes buzzing around either!

thanks for clearing that up.

That's a perfect description of Cliff's parking lot.

I have a good time at the Cliff's also... But I realize its a swampy mud hole and accept that. An hour and 15 minutes from the house or 4 and a half hours of driving at a lovely 11 MPG makes that an easy choice.

But the original petition has a MAJOR flaw....

The money in the OHV set aside program was put there to promote ATV/bike activities in the state. The funds are provided when responsible owners purchase their state stickers just like the snowmobile set aside program. Under the original program places like the Cliff's wouldn't even be eligible for money due to the fact they allow street legal vehicles.

We wont mention the fact that despite a balance over $30 million, the DNR has never awarded a single grant of any kind under this program. The Chicago-vich administration attempted several times to use the funds in the program to pay for other expenses of the DNR.

XJ Ranger, Yes I am a member of the Mudturtles, I am also an employee of the Cliffs, and yes I am applying for the grant. We need the signatures to try and show that we can share the trails with the atvs and bikes. The grant is funded by the sales of atvs, bikes, side by sides and other such vehicles. Just because jeeps and trucks do not originally fund the grant does not mean that they cannot contribute to the park. That is what we are trying to get across. Steve has no immediate need to sell the park but is waiting see what happens with the grant. The economy has been hard on Steve and this would take the burden off of him and keep the park open. So please spread the word and sign the grant at the park or the online one at www.jolietmudturtles.org and if you have further questions please dont hesitate to email me at [email protected]
