The cage worked...

I am sorry to see that happen to that rig. It was one of my favorites. I don't live to far from you. I have the glass, and maybe some other junk you may need and I will be in San Jose tomorrow (tues.) near the Keiser hospital on Cottle road. Let me know if you need it and I'll throw it in the car. 831-771-9603.

Thanks for all of the offers to help get this thing back together. I think the only thing I really need is the driver's door glass. If anyone has that kicking around, PM me and we can make arrangements. I have the rear glass.

I'll be giving the front end some TLC with the forklift at work today, and hopefully it will straighten out the front enough for me to do a little tube work and get a new radiator in there.

I have a whole drivers door you can have. Check your pm's.

you didn't even have a chance to scatch your purdy rings.

glad your ok.

Look on the bright side, it doesn't look any worse than your old one...

I guess its just meant to be Eric, your destined for a buggy.

Are you serious?!
I thought that was the one with the awful paint job that you had at JV last year.
If that's the same one it's no stranger to being on its' side. Didn't you flop it trying to get up Soup Kitchen a couple years ago?

Ya, it's all the same rig. I've lost count of all of the doors, hoods and hatches I've had on it. Now I can add a front clip to the count :laugh3:

I bent the front end back into place with the forklift at work today, but the metal up front just isn't holding the same shape it used to. It's extremely weak. Tube time...

For some reason I thought this was a new rig too! Wow... come work on my junk! I want a "new" rig.

Time to swap all that stuff onto that 2001 Freedom Edition.

My wife's been really cool about this up to this point. I think that would push her over the edge!!!!

I've seen pictures of XJs rolled without a cage and they seem to hold up fairly well (single roll), so I'm curious how much your cage actually helped. Is the unibody over the driver's door or the rear window actually pushed all the way in to the cage?
I really think his cage saved him from harm, lots of places that the body hit the cage and part of the cage was bent!

A Friends breaks faild a few years back at Hollister on White rock return trail, went down backwards lost it and went over only 1.5 times:

The guy in the back ground was in the passenger seat, with NO SEAT BELT ON!
He flew out of the front seat and went all the way to the back of the toyota, behind the second row of seats.

that's a scary sight, and certainly every XJ would benefit from a cage, but Cruisers are HEAVY and their roof is only designed to keep rain off whereas XJs roofs are designed to be structural. and did it go over backwards, end over end?

He went side over, tryed to turn it to stop and went over drivers side first.

My old 91 was put on it's side by the kid I bought it from, he only put it on its side in a big posin oak plant, the A and B pillers were wasted and the front glass was cracked. I have no fath at all in the tin can top of a XJ.

Maybe others know better but I don't trust them at all:

I remember that rig parked down by the ranger station. Must have been the day after. It was an eye opener:shocked:
