Talk me out of going TONS!

Haha we'll damn! I wish, but I'm still, city boy haha.

Any who, does anybody feel that a 60 is to big to fit well in the front I've been seeing g people complain about running out of room?

One tons and nothing else.

I was breaking d30 axle shafts everytime I went out on 33s and when I broke the chromoly and superjoint I had had enough.

Went with spooled 10.25 and spooled d60 5:13 gear and stock everything else on 38s.

I beat the piss out of it bad and have yet to have any troubles. Never second guessed if it was the right thing to do or not cuz IT IS!!!

there idiots, im runnin 5" of lift with mine with no clearence issues using 12" shocks

Well that's good to hear! Do you have any pictures of your front setup?(steering links and such) Same goes for the rest of you with 60 fronts.

A little update on my thoughts (mind you I'm A.D.H.D as ****) after the last few days reading on pirate/here/and GL4x4 I decided to go with the 60s, BUT! the set I was set on getting is a 91 front. Now that mad me happy for about 3 minuits then:tear::tear: I thought "COOL! I wont have to worry about my oil pan clearance and ill be good to....wtf":gonnablow

For those who don't know (tho i'm sure anyone looking here does) the 85-91.5 60s have very little room on the drivers side to put any mounting brackets.

So now I'm not sure what to do, i've seen people make it work but they have their springs pointing outwards (like so // \\ ) and im not quite sure how safe or ok that is for a street driven rig?

I have untill next week to decide

1) If I should just let the guy sell the 60s to someone else and continue my original 44/9 build since I just realized I have just over 1k into my 9 so far.

B) Buy them asap and deal with the limited space on the drivers side.

or 3) Wait for a 78/79 60 that seem to be non existent in my area, and when they show up they are about 6k because people build them up and then there wife finds out how much they spent and they are getting a divorce and need to pay for a lawyer or who knows what....

myself, foxwar71, mopar maniac and 5spdxj all have 80's frt 60 with out issue, theres plenty of room on the drivers side for a link mount and theres no issue having your coils like that

Yeah not to hijack his thread but after promising myself that my completely stock XJ would never go over 33's, then promising never over 35's, I have been reading all the posts on Tons and went out the past few days and spent like 5k on new man toys, I have decided I am going to put Tons on mine as well and run 38's. Oh btw my rig is a DD

X2

I prefer an 80's/90's HP60 overr thhe 78/79 ones. Cheaper/easier to find and better oil pan clearance. There's plenty of room for a link bracket and coil bucket, don't be afraid to weld part of the brackets to the center section either. It can easily be done with some simple steps like pre and post heating the weld areas.

could you guys toss up a picture of how you have it set up? If i were to have gone with the Dana44 I was just going to buy the TNT truss/braket all in one shot, working 60-75 hrs a week leaves little time to play with that much fabing.

I was looking at the ballistic axle kits, they have one that is super slim, about 3" I think and one that is a total stock replacement that is 5" So those may be able to work.

Im not afraid to weld to the cast, I have a stick welder so I can get a few high nickle rods for it.

I'm at a friends for the weekend buildning my cage but if you check out my build in advanced fab there's plenty of pics, also everyone I've known that has gotten the tnt truss had to do a bunch of work to make it fit right. Either make your own brackets for 1/4" plate or get some through ruffstuff

I wouldn't bother with a TNT truss, way too overpriced and issues with the fit. Its simple to make a truss outta rectangle tubing, it took me longer to weld mine on then it did to cut it out. The link in my signature will show you my builld thread in Adv Fab as well. Here's a thread for the work I did to my 60 too.

Robz: did you just weld your coil perches on top of the leaf perches?

Foxwar: I've been all over your build about a month ago, I didn't even notice you had the newer 60, any regrets on narrowing it? I've read a guy narrowed his for his tj and had issues clearing tires and links.

Also all you guys doing sub frames, and all this clearancing, and what not. Is his because you had to with the 60? Or was it the other parts or something you wanted to do. I'm not going to lie, I rather not have to modify the whole rig to run a 60 haha.

Ehh, if I did it again I probablyy wouldn't bother narrowing it but I don't regret it so far. I didn't run into any big clearance issues, there's still enough room I could up my tire size.

Yeah there directly welded on top of the leaf perches the center piece is half of a d30 hub with the bolt flanges ground off

Just run coilovers....easy to do and better performance

The rear, 60 has 35 spine Mouser axle shafts in it all ready.

KTM, haha I have seen that picture about 200 times in the last two days wile searching this haha. That's scarry, what gear ratio were they?

The struggler, how did you build your 44? My original plan was a full bling status 44/9, but as foxwar said, 37s it about it for a44.

My 44 is a Hp F-250 narrowed to waggy width, the F-250 housing is much beefier than a similar vintage F-150. Bigger casting with more webbing, 3"OD .500 wall tubes.

ARB, Bobby Longfield cryo and heat treat on the 5.13 R&P
RCV shafts, drive slugs, chevy flat top knuckles, high steer, bla bla bla.

It holds up well, but I have broken one stub and one short side inner. I ship the parts to RCV, less than a week later I have all brand new stuff! Their warranty service is outstanding!
