T&T or DPG Belly skid?

Many Thanks!

you can clear a t-case drop with it, just drill the holes in the rails lower.

but before dropping a huge skid plate an inch and hogging unnecessary ground clearance. why not run an sye?

Sounds like the right thing to do.

Any one care to save me some research time and tell which are the "best" SYE kits?

Many thanks...

What transfercase do you have?

If you have the 242, then you only have the option of a "Hack & Tap" SYE, available from Rubicon Express.

If you have the 231, then you have the option of the H&T as well, or a heavy duty replacement, that requires you to pull the case and replace the output shaft and tail cone.

RE sells shafts as well, and Tom Woods has excellent quality.

AX15 + 231 in my XJ...

It is not much that you loose and it covers from rail to rail which allows me to glide over things
uh doesnt every skid cover from rail to rail?

Don't forget about the Tom Wood SYE for the 242! Not that it matters since he has a 231, but just wanted to put that out there.

Oh, and thanks for the signature quote Begster, I think that's a first for me. I'm flattered...

No. Most don't actually.

I have DPG and it works well. I may modify it a little in the near future to gain some clearance.

Out of curiosity, how would you modify it to gain clearance? I think the only thing you could do would be to bend it a little closer to the angled portions of the stock crossmember, but you'd probably need a pretty substantial brake to accomplish that. Dont really think it would be worth it.

I have a 242 and run 33 tires.
I chose TNT belly pan and did have to drop it about a 1/2 inch or so.
I really don't have any regrets.

although, I do agree with the SYE as the best method.

Cut the stock crossmember and weld the skid to it. Something similar to this except I would have to cut and redrill the holes on the ears to make it work.

I think you'd be better off using a new piece of metal than trying to reuse your DPG skid for that project. None of the angles will match up correctly and if you weld the skid to the crossmember you won't be able to access the bolts that attach the crossmember to the unibody.

I don't have a break to bend anything that thick and sourcing a new piece of plate that large would not be worth the cost since I already have the skid. As for the access to the crossmember mounting bolts/studs a hole can easily be drilled into the skid to allow access for a socket and wrench.

I am probably going to take it all apart this weekend and see what I can come up with. I would like to have a nice big flat tummy on the XJ.

Quick question for those guys running the DPG skid on a 97+ with the big honkin' catalytic converter... did you have to swap out or make any modifications to the cat to clear the DPG skid?

I did not make any mods to clear the converter on my '97... but then I am not sure if I have the big honk'n converter or not.

When I did my DPG skid I was prepared to replace my exhaust to clear the skid as my exhaust is still factory and on its last leg this season.

my 96 has the big honkin converter. i no longer run the dpg skid, but i have a flat plate going from framerail to framrail. I just put about 8-10" of exhaust tubing where the cat would be, moved the cat back that 8-10" and bought a small 13" long dynomax muffler off the shelf from autozone. I can still run a tailpipe and easily clear the rear axle. the cat gets smacked around now, dented and crushed in spots, but I havent had any issues from it. If it does get blocked, I have a spare non- big honkin cat.

I have a 99 with a SYE and a TC drop. But from what I just read I cannot use either of these skids because you cant use TC drops with them?

If you have an sye,why are you running a tc drop?
