Quadratec.com and no, they take a special non roller type fairlead.

Aluminum hawse fairlead, correct.

Though I have heard that a NEW roller fairlead may be used...as there aren't any nicks or gouges in the rollers. Since this is hearsay maybe someone 100% in the know will chime in.

This maybe true but I wonder how long a new fairlead would stay that way? Mine sure didn't for very long.

Going to several UROC events where they require them I have never seen rollers used.

Problebly better to stick with what works.

An aluminum fairlead will cut down on your approach angle also.

Edit: Just found this from Rockstompers site.

Can I use my roller fairlead with rope?
Many of our customers do; the roller is susceptible to damage, and if damaged, can damage the rope. We recommend the aluminum fairleads because they are nearly impervious to the type of damage that causes roller fairleads to fail.

Bingo, exactly what I was thinking. Seemed that the way the rollers stick out there they'd have a tendency to get bashed. :)

Aluminum Hawse fairleads are the method of most. However, nylon fairleads, as well as different "poly" compound faileads exist as well, i.e. polyethelene. This is the same stuff the rope itself is made out of (as well as your gas tank), just much more dense. But yes, a roller fairlead will eat synthetic rope in no time.

nylon? that sounds really cool, anyone got a link

Hey,

I found this here in one of our forums:
windenrollen1.jpg

It is made from a so called material "delrin" ond works so far great.
The dimensions are a little larger than the original steeltubes, so the dangerous point between the edges of the horizontal and vertical tubes are smaller.

the strongest you can afford and at least 100', maybe 125

Go with a stronger material and get a thinner and longer rope. I use Masterpull Winchlines on my winches (5/16 @ 125' on a 12000 winch). Their winch lines are stronger than the usual stuff so you get a synth. rope at nearly double the strength of steel.

Good link, Lincoln. I was trying to figure out where I had seen that last, but got beat to it apparently. Im in alaska right now, but will be down in oregon the day after tomorrow... which, lucky for me, is where skymanufacturing is located. :D

Gonna be bringing home a tie rod, drag link, and d60 kingpin highsteer arms in my check in luggage. :scared: :viking:
