don't even think about it david, even with alloys and aftermarket joints. just ask Goatman.
I am thinking about it, but not seriously, I will get lighter and some alloy shafts IF I do. Doesn't goatman have a stroker??? That would definitely affect breakage. I am getting some 37" bfg baja t/a's for street tires, my gears are just too low for it to be comfy on the road. I am also looking for a tow rig or DD so my junk can be out of commission for longer.

goat has a stroker and is heavy, and a detroit up front. but he also has an auto which is easier on shafts. 35s and learning to drive will get you anywhere as the WCGIC has shown, and cost you less in the process for broken parts, gas and tires.

don't worry, "cool" has already gone past 38s, you need 39.5s to be "cool" these days. if you can't be "cool" you might as well be practical.

Re: swap finished: fullwidth d44 and 9", 38" swampers, radius arms, traction bar, etc.

That´s why I won´t go any bigger than 33/34", keep my D30/35 with DLs and call it a day. The saved money will be spent on travelling, gas, beer, other jeep parts, did I mention beer already?

But nevertheless, I like seeing the really big rigs with 37"+...

Iv ran 38s on my F-150 for 15 years...Not 1 axle or u joint breakage..All stock
& a 460...Im not light on the skinny pedal eather...I think alot of it had to do with not running any lockers front or rear

Nice looking XJ...Im thinking of doing the same I have a few sets of spare axel housings laying around Just have to decide 60s or 44/9

Re: swap finished: fullwidth d44 and 9", 38" swampers, radius arms, traction bar, etc.

Well, since I can't be cool, I am just going to be "special". Good advice brett, I will keep the 35s for now.

Looks good man! Sure has gotten bigger since I last saw it! Our 2005 Jeepin.com Hot Springs run is June 3-5 if you can make it. 'Course, with 38's, you'd probably be the biggest rig of our group. :repair:

Re: swap finished: fullwidth d44 and 9", 38" swampers, radius arms, traction bar, etc.

Looks good!

One question though why did you go with running chevy flattop knuckles with crossover high steer, chevy small bearing spindles, chevy brakes, ford hubs and rotors.

What is wrong with the ford knuckles and bearing spindles. Is it to reduce the width of the hubs sticking out or ?

Re: swap finished: fullwidth d44 and 9", 38" swampers, radius arms, traction bar, etc.

chevy's are flat top and ford aren't.

jeep looks awesome. i'm in the process of my swap right now. i now know who to ask for help.

Re: swap finished: fullwidth d44 and 9", 38" swampers, radius arms, traction bar, etc.

Same here. 60/14 and Fox coilovers. The rear is done, but the front is just getting started. This is gonna be one hell of a pain in the @ss. Coilovers dont play well with XJ unibodies. It'll be on the lift pretty much the rest of this month, at least. Likely into the beginning of june. Fab fab fab...

Those are some good pics, I like the mounting of the Track Bar... I wanted to keep mine in front of the axle too, as opposed to over it, that way I could run it as far over as possible so it stays in the same arc as the Drag Link.

thats cool. yeah richard had the beater white one with the warn sticker. he moved to lake havasu arizona. hes been back to hot springs a couple times. hes really good friends with a friend of mines parents. crazy alcoholic...lol

skid is a good guy but hes done some shoddy work on a CJ 7 i used to have. but he does good welding and fabrication work.

yeah, i don't really know what to say about skid. i've seen some pretty crappy welds and welds break as well as some questionable ethics. he supposedly installed a detroit trutrac and a detroit in a friends jeep but when my friend tore it apart he had a couple of lunchbox lockers. he wasn't too happy. i think i'll keep building and working on my own crap myself.

yeah i did a spring over on my cj with fullwidth chevys blah blah blah and i took it to him to have him install a rear disc conversion. he did a halfass install, the calipers were on upside down, the brakes wouldnt bleed and none of it worked. when i picked it up he said i had a bad master cylinder. turns out his install was the problem. and he took his own "skids jeep and 4x4" sticker off MY rig after he did that. pissed me off. hes also set up gears in a couple friends jeeps and they failed a month later. kinda shady. i dont take my crap to him anymore. richard was alot cooler and did way better work.

Just wondering...what is the benefit of using ZJ coils over XJ coils?

They are equal to 6" xj coils. For a long time the 4.5" zj was the only coil that gave 6" for an xj in the front. IMSC!

opps sory did not see the other post.
