Swamp breakage.

Never had this problem before but after swamp I noticed some odd behavior on the freeway so I decided to give the suspention the once over. I found that the center pin in my leaf pack had sheared at every leaf so my axle was moving back and forth. Made for some fun driving. Just thought I'd let you guys know that I have the first Jeep with 4 wheel steering:rolleyes:

So I learned... I am going to miss those spontanious lane changes though!!!

Also, drill those MoFo's out to 3/16", the little pins break like twigs.

Stock is 5/16ths, you should drill them out to 3/8ths, that's what I did after one of mine broke. I actually lost one of my leafs and the degree shim on Caddilac hill.

My leaf was starting to turn sideways and the degree shim was hanging on by the last little thread. Lucky I noticed it when I did. By the way for those of you who heard (and smelled) my power steering pump It's working fine now... I guess it just dosen't like rocks. I still owe Goatman a bottle of p/s fluid.

Don't worry about the p/s fluid, I'll get a beer from you next trip. :)

If everything else is working good on your p/s system, you can probably use a cooler. I haven't had a lick of trouble out of mine since I added a p/s cooler.

I've found that tightening the U-bolts is a regular maintenance item, just like checking the steering box bolts.

I'll be checking steering box bolts next... I kinda like to have steering.

ok heres my break list.

Flat left front on the way to fresno (thanx for the ride LOOP or LUPE)
badly twisted u-joint at the rear axle(remember that noise neil goatman and crash?)
a lil rock rash on both rockers.
power locks shorted out.

Thanx for the winch up Crash and Goatman. I would probably still be at the bottom without help.

Don't forget the trail fix on the fuel pressure regulator. Good thing you had those O rings in your tool box.

The U-joint likely failed becasue of the massive amount of axle wrap. You need to ditch those 3" blocks in the back.

The springs were S-shaped by the time you got to the top of rooster rock!
