"super-stock" builds

I am running F&R ARB and RE-3.5 Super Flex kit with GY 31x10.50 MTRs. I am amazed at what I just drive through now as compared with open diffs

I'm (slowly) building my rig to be along similar lines.
My experiece so far: 30's clear on 2" of lift, 31x10.50" rubs the LCA.
ZJ brakes are awesome.
Keep your lift lower & flex maximized by adding a single main leaf to the rears (bastard pack) and HD shackle brackets, in the front go OME or ZJ or whatever with discos
Stock arms are plenty strong unless you hit them on rocks. Go fast / DD, they are plenty beefy.
Winches attract attention
Otherwise, sounds good.

I am running 4.10 gears and put in a 29 spl 8.25 in the rear. I have some freebie 30's on stock rims.

For my suspension I have F-150 stock coils from an '88 F-150. For the rear I have stock XJ packs with the bottom short leaf gone and the 2nd and 3rd leaves from a waggy pack added in on each side.

Front shocks are stock monroes from a ZJ and rears are stock monroes from an MJ.

It flexes well and I don't care what anyone says about F-150 coils...it rides nice. Plus in the rear I can put 400lbs of whatever in the cargo area and it still sits nearly level and rides nice.

Based on the 17" center of wheel to bottom of flare 'stock' ride measurement I have 2.5" of lift.
I can run 31's now and with trimming could probably squeeze 33's under it. I have well under $200 invested in my suspension and no spacers, blocks, or extended shackles...all spring lift.

My plan (once my MJ is trailworthy...it will be built up on 35's) is to add lockers F/R to the XJ. nice bumpers, winch and rocker gaurds and use it as a 'chaser rig' to carry the family members who won't fit in the MJ (there's 5 of us) as well as the cooler and extra wheeling/camping gear.

heres mine now. no lift. cut up front and cut and folded in the rear. d window wheels with 4.0 backspacing. getting some 33x10.50 retread m/t's.

then will be locking the 8.25 out back and getting some or making some disconnects for up front. rear sway is gone. have front hitch for tow points and a rear hitch will come soon.

I used to drive Humvees 10-14 hrs a day 5 days a week in all manner of ridiculous conditions and this $1900 XJ impresses me all the time.

2" BB $90 shipped
30x9.5 Bfg AT's
Brown Dog motor mounts
Rear sway bar removed
The usual stock header crack
Stock everything else

Here's what I would do and I've been thinking about this for quite some time:

2" HD OME kit
Buy 1" coil spacers and 1" shackles (or OME AAL) and set aside.
Front/oil pan/t-case/gas skids
Rock rails
Aftermarket upper and lower arms for strength
Front Detours bumper with winch of your choice
Rear hitch and extraction point (hook, d-ring, etc)
Front and rear lockers (auto-rear, manual-front)
Remove flares or raise em
31 or 32 mud terrains on wheels with 4.5" backspacing
Sway bar disconnects
Adjustable t-bar (JKS)
SYE and shaft
Longer brake lines
Modded bumpstops
OBA

I would toss all this stuff on your rig and then if needed, throw in the spacer/AAL/Shackle kit to increase the height from possible sag of all the skids.

You will have yourself a strong Low-Cog rig that's pretty much capable of going anywhere and still look stock.

265/75/16's are 32" tall. I have the same size and they measured out at exactly 32" but I don't know how he's able to fit em with 3.5". I have 4.5" and the same size but with 5" of bumpstop up front (only 3" uptravel) and 7" bumpstops in the rear. I still rub. :(

trim? i run 33's and BARELY rub in the back. but i did trim in the front. just gotta do it if you want any up travel

I did a little bit on the lower front bumper. I can't remove my flares and trim cuz PA law says no. I'm waiting to get bushwacker's flatties but that won't happen anytime soon.

Sorry to derail the thread temporarily. But i've looked through this whole thread and I notice ALOT of RUBI wheels. Where are you guys finding those things?????? I can only find the ones for the 07-up wranglers which need a Lug adapter to fit.

I know there are some aftermarket companies and Qtec sells them too, but at 230 a pop, geez!

I also have the RUBI wheels and it took a couple weeks to find the right deal. I got mine from a local forum after putting up a "wanted post". I've also seen them on craigslist.

245/75R16 = 30.5"
265/75R16 = 31.6"

BTW: if you haven't already, you may want to bookmark the Miata.net Tire Size Calculator - that thing's seriously handy.
X2. I've used it often enough that simply typing "calc" in the address bar of my firefox results in it being the first result in the dropdown.

FWIW, I fit 245/75R16s in the rear wheel wells of a stock 2WD MJ with a full set of tires, a few hundred pounds of snow, and an AX15 sitting in the back along with about 100lbs of spare fluids and random parts/tools. Springs are already badly sagged even empty and it still fit them just fine.

Front wheel wells are the same as an XJ so they won't fit as easily there, and this won't work on the rear wheel wells of an XJ either. I'm just happy I won't have to trim at all in the back to fit these.
