Sunday, July 29th run to azusa canyon

I had a great time today guys, thanks to all who showed.

I'll get the pics up as soon as I can get the camera away from the girlfriend.

Alot of people were looking at my rig funny on the drive home.

Ok, sorry took so long, I had a few beers with my neighbor last night watching all the vids and laughing, then i got tired. So here are my pics (or most of the ones that are worth a darn). Sorry Ted, I just realized i didn't get your Jeep at all! I'm firing my camera-man, please don't sue me ;).

So....there is proof that there is such thing as mud. Although there is the possibility that its all photoshop!
Now, what kind of maintenance is required to do this 'mud' thing?
Especially after taking a bath in it Skwerly!

:D

Rick

ROFL yea, it's out there, and yea, XJ's can do it. I believe the most important things (maintenance wise) after a run is to make SURE you didn't get water in the differentials (before i go i make double sure my breathers are on, up, and secure), and check out brakes after going into the deep stuff. Other than that, it's clean, clean, clean, take a break, clean some more, eat dinner, then clean some more. After all that, start on the interior. To be honest, I'm not a big mud fan, I am more of a Big Bear type trail guy (streams, fallen trees, SOME mud, SOME rocks, etc.). But yea, Asuza is pretty cool, if nothing else the free idiot show is WELL worth whatever gas you have to use to get there.

I'm more worried about cleaning the interior than the exterior, I kinda like the mud look.

Skwerly, what's the best way to check the diffs for water, I'd rather not drain them if I don't have to.

Trust me, when it comes to expensive and crucial differentials, pop the cover off man, because even if you stick your finger in the fill hole and don't feel any water, it's probably there if you spent any amount of time submerged. You don't even need a gasket though to put it back on, just get some RTV and bead it up on the INSIDE of the bolt holes after cleaning it with a putty knife or something and a rag w/ alcohol on it (that's what i do anyhow), then just stick it back on and fill with gear oil. MUCH cheaper and easier than grenading your gears bud :).

guess i gotta go buy some ford friction modifier.

I was in the area on Sunday (Burro range). Anyways, on my way back I passed a white/cream colored XJ: anyone wants to fess up to that one? It was about 4 pm or maybe a bit later. Anyways.... if you saw me pass you and have no clue what my jeep looks like, you'll have no problem knowing it was me: red black green white XJ with a snorkel on 35's with beadlocks and a spinning spare tire in the rear :D

Sup skwerly hows that locker working for ya. I'll get one eventually

I gotta get out there and get my Azuza cherry popped.

Did it have the gold limited wheels?

We saw that guy, but I don't think he was NAXJA.

That locker sure does its job man. Once i get something OTHER than 33 inch race slicks on it i'll be able to do a lot more. I noticed it most on sand hills for some reason. Where normally the Jeep would hop up and down once it could go further no more, you could feel the front end just biting and the steering wheel go back and forth as each tire gets traction. In short: it's bad ass lol. I highly recommend these to anyone who is open diff'd!

I was looking at buying one already.

Which one did you go with?

I got an Aussie locker. Quiet as all get out, only clicking on real tight turns on the road, and offroad the only reason i knew it was there was that i could do a hell of a lot more LOL. 249.00 shipped, quality unit, takes NO time to install, can't go wrong! I hear the Lock-Right will do very well too, but the Aussie is cheaper and has an EXCELLENT reputation thus far.

Try putting in Aussie locker and Lock-Right locker in the search engine, there has been many heated debates over which is best. Only thing i can say for sure is i went with the Aussie and absolutely love it.

Ok, got some of the pics uploaded:
