I have a 2001 Sport and I would like some suggestions on where to mount a 4-6 channel amp.

It will not fit under the seat

I would rather it not be visible from the outside

This is my work car and I dont want to take up too much space

thanks,

Cabe

Theres not really any good spot for an amp that big unless its under the rear seat. Or you can build a false floor like some people have done.

I have a planet audio 4 channel under my rear seat it fits pretty decently under there.

mount it to the back of your sub box against the back seat.

attatch it to your back seat or build an amp rack that fits up next to your back seat that is what i did it gave me room for a 3000 watt and a 1000 watt amp and 2 compasiters

If you want to really fit it under your rear seat, You will have to:
1. Get a smaller slimmer amp [JL]
2. Cut out some of the vertical floor face right below the seat itself.
Now i didnt like that idea (car toys installers recommeded) and i had already gotten my eclipse amps so i chose to mount them on the rear of the rear seat.
I used one way security sheet metal screws, and then eventually i created a trunk enclosure for the whole rear.
I just put the posting up, here is the thread..

Anyways depending on the volume you run and the type of speakers you have. You may want to consider the heat issue. I run my amps HARD and LOUD AS F*$@ so they do get hot and when the stray coat or whatever sits on them for too long they have cut out on me..
As you can see i remedied this by adding a 12V computer fan to my enclosure..

It will get hot under the seat, But it my NOT clip out even if you can get it to some how fit..

in the cargo area behind the wheel well and the tail gate there is a cubby hole part. you can take some screws and get them in 3 corners and put the am over that space. Thats how i've had mine for about a year and no problems..i can get you a pic of what im talking about if you want one

I got my 300W Alpine under my pass seat. I hat to replace some of the insulation under the carpet with a thinner, more efficient type. I also put an OEM style heat shield ( bone yard ZJ) above my cat conv. On our '01s the cat is right under that seat with no shields. It's a REALLY tight fit, like the adjuster mech will rub it IF you dont watch while you move the seat. Pfft, and the guys at the stereo place said it wouldn't fit! HA!

I have a 91 4 door, I just screwed mine to the back of the seat, I would have mounted it to the box for the 12 but the rca's i bought were not long enough. i also built a rear cargo deck to cover it.

Like it's been mentioned before, my vote would go for the back side of the rear seat. That's where I have my Eclipse 4 Channel mounted.

I know you said you'd rather it be out of site, but with a 4-6 channel, it's probably a larger size amp, and won't just tuck anywhere. I have my windows tinted to 15% in the back, so I don't really worry about anyone seing it.

You could always try and figure a way out to mount it on the underside of the rear seat. I haven't checked there myself to see how much clearance it would have, but I think you'd have more room than the floorpan area under the rear seat since it is a flat surface versus a curved section.

Just my $0.02...

I have a 94 4 dr, got a jbl GTQ 200 under the rear seat, and it's not small. Also I have never had an overheating issue. If you amp's bigger than that you can mount it to the rear tailgate, and flush mount it. You better have a lot of patience though. And if you get rear ended, kiss it bu bye, Just a thought.
also if you need pics of my install let me know.
