I wont use those automatic carwashes either.About 12 years ago I pulled into one with my '70 Chevelle and had a bad experience. It was one of the older style ones that had the rolling brushes in it.I'm sitting there letting the machine do its work when all of a sudden I start hearing a loud Ka-Bam,Ka-Bam,Ka-Bam on the roof of my car.I immediately drove out of the bay and examined the damage- Soft top was shredded, paint on the hood and trunk were scarred up, and the wind shield trim was beat to hell. All the damage was in an area that formed a nice swath right down the center of the car.I went inside and got the attendant (this was at a Diamond Shamrock station by the way) and we headed to the bay to see what caused the damage. It turns out that on the center brush, the one that rolls up the hood and over the roof, had a CB whip antenna spring base and co-ax cable tangled up in it creating a large "flail" that beat the crap out of my car.Diamond Shamrock paid for the damage and since that day I will not use an automatic carwash.
