I think they're worn to the point that it's getting unsafe lol.


Any bets on how many days are spent in the driveway cussing and throwing wrenches?

3-4 hours times the PITA factor my XJ usually throws in there, so mulitply that by 5.

Throwing wrenches??? How many hammers do you own, and what does the heaviest weigh? I mean, if you're gonna throw something, at least make it work to your benefit. LOL

This is also a good time to think about Unit Bearings, axle shaft U-Joints, and the BIG bottle of anti-seize. Also remember: "PB-Blaster is your friend!"

If you don't alreay own one, get the tie rod tool that presses the stud out of the fitting. I brought one home as a loaner from Auto Zone 10 years ago, still haven't taken it back for my refund. LOL I used the A-Z ball joint press when I did our XJ. It worked very well after I set it up to push the right direction. :dunce:

looks like NAPA has the joints for about 25/ea for upper/lower. Seems cheap enough. The shop that alligned it said they'd do it for $750.

$750, wow! I'm remembering why I'm out in all kinds of weather getting my ass kicked by a hunk of steel. I guess I finally convinced myself that I enjoy doing this stuff.

For $200 you can get the ball joint/u-joint press that I showed in the photo on my previous post. And have the ball joints done, and keep the tool!

Really wasn't too bad. One stuborn knuckle can really slow ya down though. Glad to help and more importantly...glad you got some new joints in. The lowers were simply scary.

PS those gears will be perfect, if I run 32's stock gear ratio would need to = 3.38 so 3.57 or w/e those were should be just about right.

Oh I got ANOTHER letter from the HOA about those tires, second in a week LoL

No hurry. I got to thinking about it and I figure we can strip the axleshafts , unit bearing hubs and what ever else you want to keep off your current axles for use as trail spares.

Actually I'll already have done that. No way am I gonna sell you those without some exploritory surgery to make sure they're in good shape.
