I finally got all the stuff to do a tune up on my 1988. I have plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Is there anything else i should throw in there while I'm at it, like a coil, etc.?

I also need to get my other three gold honeycomb wheels swapped out for some stock steel wheels that I got from Cnickgo sometime back. The one on there now looks super cool.

A rear bumper would be nice before the Crawl gets here to. Right now it's just stock sheetmetal back there and a hitch. If the money tree would just grow for me.

I hear you on the money tree.... We just dropped a bunch of money on steering upgrades for her jeep.

Make sure you have a fresh fluid and filter change in the trans before the crawl. It will be much happier depending on how long it's been. If I had a plasma cutter here id be building bumpers but my money tree is tapped as well

Borrow Zinger's plasma for awhile!!

Your boss needs one so you can do more fabrication on his XJ.

It's terrible tedious work but check all the sensors per web instructions and make sure they're all good. Never know with a RENIX but it can make a difference in power and fuel economy. I'd be willing to bet you could unplug the distributor (try it) and you wouldn't know the difference by seat of your pants.

none of mine would start with the distributor unplugged?

Wouldn't hurt to pick up a coil and toss it in the back as a spare.

When I left for the first crawl, I grabbed a coil and a crank sensor off Rock Auto for a very good price. Neither of which had been replaced to my knowledge on the Jeep, and with 160K on it at the time, I knew I was pushing my luck. Not to mention those are two of the main things that can really make for a bad trip should they go out unexpectedly. Wound up replacing the coil this summer as part of some diagnostics I was doing, but the new CPS is still in the back.

And do post up when you get that money tree figured out. I can't seem to get mine to work either...

I just replaced ANOTHER coil on the Teal Jeep this weekend. I was stranded on a windy mountain road (zero shoulders) with blind corners front and back, with the camper in tow when it crapped out. Luckily I had a spare ready to go.

This the FOURTH coil I have put on the Teal Jeep, and the THIRD I have put on my red Jeep. I finally broke down and put Accel Coils on them both as the auto parts store crap (from various places) never lasted more than a month or three. Bite the bullet, by a good coil (Accel/MSD/OEM) the first time, and keep your existing OEM for as spare.

ive never had a big issue with a renix coil... the HO ones are the ones that go all the time

Never had any issue with mine...but knew I was on borrowed time. The OEM one is now my spare. The one I got from Rock Auto is of excellent quality...or at least it appears to be. Far better than the stuff off the shelf locally.

I worked on a Jeep today!!!!

I took apart the dash in the mother-in-law's 1998. Checked everything out and reset the gauge cluster and added dielectric grease like everyone recommends. It's working for now. We'll see for how long. Ha!

Oh yeah, started up my XJ and pulled it outside in the sunlight. I don't guess I've done that since last November. Wow.

I took the dash out of my '00 today too. I was on the phone talking to Ed while we were both pulling dashes. Hahahaha!! I needed to replace a bulb that had burned out behind my fuel gauge. Got everything put back together and I can see my fuel gauge at night now.
