Stuck On A New Gaming System

And Internet gaming on PS3 is FREE no 50 dollar a year charge.

This I actually do not care about. Xbox Live was slated to go free at some point. But due to the popular vote, it remained a pay service. Older article, but you get the gist. My roommate has a PS3 BTW, and the new online thing that Sony launched it not impressive at all. It looks like they took Fantasy Star Universe, and the Sims, smashed them together, and called it something else.

BTW, is the PS3 going to come down in price anytime soon? It has been out for over 2 years now and the price has never come down on it.

Good luck with that one. It doesn't even come with a Mic at that price too. For $400, I walked out of a Best Buy with a Xbox Pro and a two year warranty. 15 months later (yesterday), I walked back into Best Buy for a warranty exchange (absolutely nothing wrong with it, I said warranty exchange and they didn't even ask), and walked back out with an Elite for $50.

We love the hell out of our Wii. Neither of us are hardcore gamers, but we have a surprising amount of fun with the Wii. It's nice and approachable for my decidedly non-gamer girlfriend, but it's still a lot of fun for me. It's an absolute riot at parties.

We've been having the most fun with WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Boom Blox, and Mario Kart.

It's been said in various forms here, but here goes nothin' new.
Personally I'm on the Xbox 360 side, but I buy a game system to play games, period. Movies and such are viewed on a different tv, in a different room. I don't waste the game system's resources on movies/music/etc. It may be a pita, but MS will fix/replace your 360 that goes 'red ring' @ no charge (they can be talked into covering shipping). I like the feel of the controller better too. 'Live' is well worth the cost to me. The ability to play through the games, not just 'death match' type scenarios, is a big step imho. It's nice to be able to play co-op without having to be in the same room/house as your partner. No more split screen gaming!

I think you may be happier with the PS3 though. For the more casual gamer, the Blu-ray and other extra features will be welcome. Especially if you game and watch movies on the same tv, and want to minimize the amount of equipment stacked up by said tv.

happy shopping

Dual Shock sticks on the PS3 are so freakin' sensitive. Playing COD on my roomy's PS3 would drive me nuts because I would be trying to shoot and end up slicing the air and dying. I'm sure I could get used to it, but jumping back and forth between the systems, there is no way.

It's been a long time since I've played a video game. I still have my PS2 from 5-6 years ago. I don't really play video games at all anymore, but I'm thinking I may get back into playing pretty soon since there are a lot of games out right now that I like. I'm stuck between a Wii and a PS3.

I really want a Wii because of the interactive aspect and funner games. Even people who don't play video games can play the Wii. It's fun for parties where multiple people can bowl or play some kind of sports games, which I throw a lot of parties. I like much more of the Wii games...I'm not very much into RPG's and first person shooters, don't care too much for the violence and suspense. Most importantly, at 250.00, its the cheapest.

I was looking at the PS3 simply for the fact it has a blu-ray player, which I do not have. That would be good for the fact that I watch more movies than I play video games. I'm not a fan of the majority of the games on the PS3 though. At nearly 400.00 brand new, thats a little too steep for my budget right now. But, my PS2 has served me well. In the 5-6 years I have had it I've not had one problem with it. I was thinking the PS3 might do the same thing.

Any suggestions would be helpful. I'm leaning towards the Wii for the reasons stated, and for the fact that i was planning on buying a blu ray player in 6 months when I pay off my tv...

Console systems suck. Video output and detail of the games are crap, and the price for the console games are too high. Take the $300 you'd spend on a console and buy a high end video card for your computer.

Game playing on a PC is faster, better and cheaper. Want to play on your nice 50" LCD/Plasma? Get a HDMI to DVI cable.

I only have a laptop. So computer gaming for me would mean spending $1000+ on a new computer system that is suitable for gaming. Plus it would look a little goofy having a computer tower in your living room next to the TV.

It's still pretty, but it needs a winch bumper!

Back to the original topic...

You can get a PC for $299. You put a $150 Nvidia 8800GT in it, and get a $10 DVI to HDMI cable to hook to the LCD/Plasma. You get a wireless mouse and keyboard ($70). Oh add $135 to that for a dual tuner TV capture card, and free software and now you have a gaming system and a Personal Video Recorder. $100 more and you can put a TERABYTE of storage in it.

Add to that the games for the PC are $50 or less, most games are free to play online, well I think it would pay for itself in the long run.

To each his own, just trying to give you an alternative view.

Like I said before though, coming from a PS2, with no real Xbox experience, and no ties to Xbox Live. I'd be all over a PS3. Call of Duty in Blu Ray beats the snot out of Call of Duty on a DVD.

Thats not how it works bud, they look exactly the same. Games on Blue-Ray compared to DVD have no difference. Its not the amount of information that a disk can store that makes the difference but the internal hardware on a console that makes the difference, that and the developer and how much processing power they devote to the graphics

Alright, bud, if you want to get flippin' specific. The Blu Ray disc is used to store the native HD formats. Thus a Blu Ray game, in an actual HD format does look better than a typical game format.

You both maybe right, but I've played both and the PS3 has marginally better graphics and that doesn't hold true for ALL 360 vs PS3 games.

Thats what I was getting at. Not all PS3 games are made in a Native HD format. It's just a regular game burned onto a a Blu Ray disc. But this is changing, more and more PS3 games are being written in HD. Thats where you will see your difference.

I hear you. But, and this is only my opinion, difference is very marginal for game play. The third and forth generation 360 games that are also on the PS3 look very nearly identical.

I just don't see the PS3 as a viable gaming system until the price comes down atleast another 25~30%.

I bought the ps1 and ps2 and told all my friends that the xbox had too bulky of controllers for years... Now I have the halo3 edition xbox and love the damn thing. The wife uses it to watch movies and entertain our kids with netflix, I use it to kill my friends in halo and bad company.

The 360 controllers dont seem to be oddly shaped to me anymore. and I like being able to talk to my other friends on msn messenger and what not.

I have a wii as well. Dont think it has been used in over a year.

if your going for a family machine get the Wii, my wife cant grasp the concept of so many buttons on the controller so for her the Wii is great, except she doesnt play the damn thing. but it is definatley easier to control than a duel joystick...

True Patriots play a PS3... :) Let me know if you get one, I'll add ya.

Cod4 and some of 5 at my brothers.
Madden 09
Some bargain sports games, boxing, baseball, basketball. I hear little big planet is awesome.

I'm actually a PC gamer as well, but can't afford to keep building a new pc every 3 years or so, so the ps3 was a great tradeoff. Oh yeah, Blu-Ray.
