Stuck On A New Gaming System

Has microsoft fixed the Red Rings of Death problem yet?

Yes, they fixed the problem in production about two years ago. The solder was a lead free type that would become brittle after multiple heat cycles, which in turn led to cracking of the solder joints and eventual hardware failure.

Regardless, ALL 360s are covered by a 3 year warranty for hardware failure.

I think the whole BluRay thing is a sucker mover on Sony's part since regular DVDs look great with an upconverting DVD player and an HDMI cable hookup.

Really? Because I have been thinking of buying one of these for a while...

Yeah, I do think that, but that's just me. By the time you get done with the PS3, it's into your pocket for $500. Now look at the price of the limited supply of games and the cost of BluRay movies.

Now with the 360 for $350, you have a great selection of games, a system that networks with your other computers in your house should want to do that, and you have enough left over to purchase a good BluRay player.

That selection of games is also 'used', so now they cost a third of what they cost new. So you can save money all over the place.

The PS3 is a better system from the standpoint of hardware, but the lack of consul specific games and the variety that the 360 has hurts it SO much.

I got a PS3 and I freaking love it. Like the 360, you can use it essentially as a complete media center; either store on the HDD or stream from your computer. You can use the internet and such on it -- makes it good for watching YouTube vids with other people.

I've always been a PS fan though, and I dislike the control for the XBox. From what I understand, though, is the HDD in the PS3 is easily upgradable. It uses a 2.5" HDD like a laptop.

Blu Ray capability is awesome, but I haven't used it yet. Don't forget the HD DVD format is dead now, so it's just Blu Ray.

Either way, the consoles are fairly equal in terms of what the consoles can do. I think it generally comes down to a personal preference.

360 all the way i went from a ps2 to a 360 plus now with the update from live, you can download any game onto your hard drive.... so just buy the game the day it comes out download it and the ebay it :)

We got the Wii last year for Christmas, the Fit board this year for Christmas. My 10 and 7 yr old love playing it, plus all thier Xbox games carry over.

I'll admit, I don't play it daily like my kids do, but we play it as a famliy weekly and have a great time. Our family is pretty active so we actually enjoy the physical aspects of the Wii. I can see how those with a sedentary lifestyle may see this as a negative. You can sit and play most games that only require the hand controllers/nunchucks, for those that get winded by walking to the kitchen for more Cheetos and a soda refill..............:rattle:

That being said, Wii doesn't have the best selection of games out there.

I had a PS3, but I sold it to my dad so I could fund a lift. I just got a 360 from my fiance' for christmas. The 360 is pretty BA, awesome games for it. A lot more than the PS3, but its been out for a bit longer.

The advantages of the PS3 are the Blu-ray player, which is awesome, but you need a 1080i or 1080p tv to really get the full effect. If you dont, then dont bother getting it for just that. Also with the TOTL PS3 you get built in wireless internet, and memory card slots.

I dont like the controlers on the PS3 because the battery is built into it, so I figure in a few years you will have to buy a new controller due to the batterys not holding a charge. The 360 youjust change the batterys.

The way I look at the systems is as follows

Wii- More interactive, less graphics.
PS3- More graphics for movies, photo's and family stuff. free online play. Great Video/Game system.
360- More games, great graphics, and lots of storage. Pay for online play Great Gamer System

The wireless remote charges via USB. Works great for me since my laptop is on the coffee table along with my PS3 remote.

:D

Just for the record I have Samsung 37" LCD 1080p tv.

Ok, imho the 360 is the way to go, I have owned all 3 of the next gen consoles and ended up selling my PS3 and Wii. All systems have their advantages and disadvantages over the other console but for me personally the 360 was the best.

The PS3 is a serious machine, the hardware sets itself above every other console of this generation. The Blue-Ray is amazing and since HD DVD is dead, blue ray is the standard for high definition movies.
But... the online gaming of the PlayStation has a long way to go before it ever reaches that of the 360, although it is free compared to the 360's $50 a year. As far as games go, PS3 has three games that are exclusive blockbuster games, Resistance (1 and 2), MGS4 (which may be coming to 360) and Killzone (1 and 2). Other than that most every great game is either on both the 360 and the PS3 or exclusive to the 360.
As for price expect to pay 400 for the 40gb version, that is not backwards compatible, 500 for the 80gb version that is backwards compatible. The PS3 does not come with component cables or HDMI, so you have to buy that for HD gaming and to make use of the Blue Ray. And you also have to buy your first game.
Overall the PS3 is a good gaming console. But the price is twice the cost of other consoles of this generation. When the PS3 came out 600 dollars was crazy, but you could justify it as a cheap Blue Ray player, but now that Blue Ray players are less than 300, you cant even do that.

The 360 is a great all around game console. It offers games that are easily accesible to the casual gamer (Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Viva Pinata) and games that appeal to the hardcore gamer (Halo 3, Call of Duty, Mass Effect, Gears of War (1 and 2). While its hardware is a little less capable than the PS3 it will not effect game performance at all in this generation.
The media capabilities set the Xbox appart from its competition. Using the Xbox to stream Netflix movies is simple and convenient. Xbox live is amazing and a good deal for only 50 dollars a year. With over 7 million users online Xbox live is the standout winner in this generation for online gaming.
The 360 has three different versions. The Arcade retails for 200, but it does not have a hdd and comes with a wired controller, but it typically comes with one or two games. The premium or pro version retails at 299 and comes with a 60gb hdd, a wireless controller, one month of Xbox live for free, and some bundles will include a game. The elite version comes with a 120gb hdd, one wireless controller, one month of Xbox live for free and does not come with a game. All versions come standard with component cables in order to enjoy HD gaming right out of the box.
Overall the Xbox 360 is my pick for the console with the most to offer. The online gaming capabities, the relatively low entry cost, and the list of exclusive blockbuster games set this console apart from the PS3 and Wii.

The Wii is great for casual gaming. It's cheap, only 250 ($50 more than Xbox 360 Arcade). It some good games (Mario Galaxy, Legend of Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash Brothers). It can be fun for little kids and is good for parties. The draw backs are the lack if games that meet the needs for hardcore gamers, and the fact that swinging the wiimote around does get old after a while. Although the backwards compatibility is awesome.

In my opinion the 360 is the best all around although each console does have its strengths.

FOr all of you PS3 Haters that think Blu-Ray is the same as DVD you are mistaken...

I won't even buy DVD no more the difference is like VHS to DVD. Until you experience Blu-ray in HD you are missing out. And this is only on a 1080I TV. I can't wait to get a 1080P one.

Xbox does have some great games but so does PS3. And most games are getting released multi platform now so...

And Internet gaming on PS3 is FREE no 50 dollar a year charge.

I'm not a hardcore gamer so I'm not seeing the advantage of going with the xbox.
