Stuck On A New Gaming System

It's been a long time since I've played a video game. I still have my PS2 from 5-6 years ago. I don't really play video games at all anymore, but I'm thinking I may get back into playing pretty soon since there are a lot of games out right now that I like. I'm stuck between a Wii and a PS3.

I really want a Wii because of the interactive aspect and funner games. Even people who don't play video games can play the Wii. It's fun for parties where multiple people can bowl or play some kind of sports games, which I throw a lot of parties. I like much more of the Wii games...I'm not very much into RPG's and first person shooters, don't care too much for the violence and suspense. Most importantly, at 250.00, its the cheapest.

I was looking at the PS3 simply for the fact it has a blu-ray player, which I do not have. That would be good for the fact that I watch more movies than I play video games. I'm not a fan of the majority of the games on the PS3 though. At nearly 400.00 brand new, thats a little too steep for my budget right now. But, my PS2 has served me well. In the 5-6 years I have had it I've not had one problem with it. I was thinking the PS3 might do the same thing.

Any suggestions would be helpful. I'm leaning towards the Wii for the reasons stated, and for the fact that i was planning on buying a blu ray player in 6 months when I pay off my tv...

My roommate and I have a WII and 360, the WII barely gets touched, we both are tired of the thing and think its stupid. It has some novelty for a little while but that wears off quickly. Get a 360 and be done with it. Blu-ray and HD dvd are stupid at the moment, they cost too much, but in a few years will be more practical, just wait.

PS3 hands down :worship:

That being said, if you're not much of a gamer than get the Wii. I have it and it's fun for the social setting. Don't expect much in the gaming arena though.

I don't play too much of anything. If I got a PS3 that would change though. Probably a good thing that I don't have one.

I have the Wii, 360, and PoS3. the latter only is used for bluray =\

while the Wii is fun for certain things, like groups of people to play. I definitely prefer the 360 for FPS's and such

my vote is for the 360!

Get the Xbox 360. Hands down, the games for the 360 beat out the PS3. The titles for the PS3 just aren't there anymore. And the 360 provides XBoxLive with a HUGE amount of awesome downloadable content. If you have a NetFlix account, you can stream movies. You can rent and purchase all kinds of video content from XBoxLive.

360 is the way to go!! Especially if you like to play live, because Xbox live is AMAZING. It just blows away PS3's live even though PS3's is free. Xbox live is 50 a month, i'm pretty sure, and totally worth it. We recently got an HDTV and the xbox makes dvd's look GREAT. Blu-ray is good but in my opinion, the PS3 is too pricy.

My last platform was a PS2, by the way. I never owned the old xbox, and hated it. But I absolutely love the 360.

Its funny you post this question, I had the exact same delima. I decided on the xbox 360, I've now had it for 3 days and it is AWESOME! I bough it and 2 games, Need for speed undercover, and Call of Duty world at war. The graphics are awesome, and some of the games are in HD if you have an HDTV. Plus it has HDMI output and digital audio out, so it really shakes the house if I turn it up!

I've played the Wii at my friends house, and I thought it was really fun. But everybody seems to say the same thing, its cool at first but it wears off fast, and there is not many games for it. The graphics do not even come close to comparing with PS3 and xbox 360. The only reason I didn't ge the PS3 is because of the price, too much for me.

You can get the arcade version of xbox 360 for $199 now, but it has much less memory and no HD outputs.

We've got a Wii, and a 360.
Truthfully, the Wii hasn't seen much action since we got it a day or two after Xmas. The new has almost already worn off.
I play my 360 daily. I totally suck at it but I attempt to play COD5.
I know others that have bought the PS3 for the Blueray and wish they'd saved the extra cash for a plain ol' Blueray player.

I you do go with a 360......minimum of a 20G harddrive. Don't skimp on the Arcade. I did see where they're advertising a 20G harddrive and a year of GOLD as a bundle. I don't recall the price though. I've got the 60G and couldn't be happier. Also for the record, I bought 13months of GOLD for $38 on Amazon.

Bought a Wii even with 3 kids in the house it didnt get played much after the first two weeks, Ended up selling it for 500 back when they were popular and expensive, bought a PS3. We still havn't stopped playing it. And I don't play much RPG or FPS either, but you can download demos for free and basically try a game before you buy it. And know that blockbuster rents Bluray it is are HD movie and gaming Machine. RockBand 2 is awesome but it is avail on all systems.

Wii is gimmicky and you will get tired of it... PS3 is the way to go.

X-box is ok hopefully they have gotten past the fatal error stuff. I am just sick of Microsofts JUNK - Vista X box, zune...

I've got to go with the 360 too. I was a PS2 guy forever and one of my buddies converted me. The Xbox live is awsome and worth the $50 a year cost and there are tons of great group games. Guitar hero, Rock band, Scene it. I've even got the dance dance revolution for my wife and after a couple beers thAt game is a blast
You can download demos, to see if you like the game, movies, if you have netflix you can download straight to the system.
Plus the PS3 online system is built around windows, I think, who do you think microsoft worked harder on Sony's on microsofts own system

I'm not a gamer but have a kid. I went the route with the Wii. The woman uses the Wii fit board and the kid is always playing it when it's time. We play the Mario Kart and Mario Party games as a family quite often. We also bought the Jeep game. In the Jeep game the graphics suck compared to whats out there and the game control stinks it does allow you to drive things like a Honcho, Grand Wagoneer, Willy's pick-up and the Renegades though. The Wii is used quite often for little get togethers and parties. We use multiple Wii's and my wireless internet to play Mario Kart online with one another as a group of 8.

Damn! I didn't realize so many people dislike the Wii. Does it require physical action for every game?

Looks like I'm still undecided. Thanks for the tips on the Xbox, but I know for sure I won't be getting one. I do not like the Xbox controls, plus no blu ray. I'm not really interested in giving Microsoft anymore money either. Xbox is a little more for hardcore gamers, which I am definitely not.

The Wii will get boring fast. I still think about buying one for party reasons but everytime I play one for more than three times I think.. I just want to sit down sometimes.

I bought a 360 before Toshiba ditched the HDDVD and felt kinda stupid(price dropped and I could have went BD.)

Rumor is that microsoft already sent orders out to toshiba for BD players on the Xbox plus you can stream netflix and have a great online experiance with these things. Sony has the best hardware hands down with BD fitting like 50gb(not really needed) on a disk and xbox only fitting 8gb on a dvd. Games are great for both its a personal pref I would think twice about the Wii tho.

The Wii just gets boring after awhile.

The controls for the PS3 are much less ergonomic IMO. It's like Sony forgot to work on the peripherals when they went back to the drawing board for the PS3.

Microsoft may have screwed teh pooch with the warranty stuff on the 1st gen 360s, but the 2nd and 3rd gen 360s are spot on. The 360 has the capability to be everything in your entertainment center. It will network with your PC and play your music and video files. It will stream directly from the interwebs. It really is a great system.

But if you really are set against the Microsoft thing and really want the BluRay, then get the PS3. I think the whole BluRay thing is a sucker mover on Sony's part since regular DVDs look great with an upconverting DVD player and an HDMI cable hookup.

Has microsoft fixed the Red Rings of Death problem yet?
I have a wii, the novelty hasn't worn off yet but I can see that the game selection sucks.
It also can't play DVDs, you have to pay to use the internet browser, I have NO clue if it can play music or not, the motion sensing isn't very reliable, which gets pretty for. Like a game will tell you to shake the remote left and right, and sometimes it just won't register.

I'll stick to my computer games, thank you. :)

Id recomend against a Wii, its fun, but for only a little bit, But if your not the hardcore gamer type then this is fun at parties.
Between PS3 and 360... Id go with what ever your friends have. You dont notice the difference in grapics unless you have a very nice TV. Blu-ray is the same thing, just watch it on DVD. Also the game selection is pretty broad for both of them.
