Stroker Guys, what are you getting gas mileage wise?

I have the chance to pickup a 4.7L Stroker bored .060 REALLY cheap &it's only 2k miles old so I was wondering what you guys with strokers are getting gas mileage wise. I'm guessing it's probably worse than what a regular 4.0 gets &if so by how much?

Gas mileage is not much of a consideration if you want a stroker...

Check to see what type of gas it's setup to run on...

Some strokers need hi octane some don't, depends on the Compression/quench...

If it's designed around a Renix, it might even be setup with the knock sensor...

it might be getting good mpg, but if it only runs nice on 92+ octane, it'll start to add up...

then again, most folks build strokers for power, and consider mileage incidental...

I dont really think it would be too different. If you can get a stroker for cheap(how cheap) then get it. Everything I've read on this site says they're great. I think you can run them on 89 octane.

Agreed.

My 4.6L stroker is getting about 14mpg around town and 17hwy w/ 4.88s and 33s.

The compression ratio is 10:1, so it runs on premium.

Filling up is painful.

I get about 10-12 mpg highway with a tailwind...

and it's not even a stroker!!!

it's about the gearing baby!!!

I got 117 the other day on a quarter tank so I'm kinda happy for now

About that stroker...I know this guy who at the time owned a 2000 XJ, something happened that the motor went so he had a $2,800 Stroker built for it(think it's a Hesco, could be wrong), 2K miles later he sells it and the new owner gets SLAMMED into a week later(in the rear). It's at the local Texaco now and I was looking it over after I fueled up and the current owner was there so he asks if I want anything off it and I say the motor and he says I can have it for $50 after the insurance adjuster looks at the Jeep...I was thinking, a $3k motor for $50 I'm going for it!

My other question is how long could I let it sit before it goes bad? I don't think it can go in anytime soon :(

Dude, If that guy is for real, why are you here posting questions about mileage and not at his house with a $50 bill??!!!

My frickin pistons are over $600!!!

hell, even for a couple of hundred dollars, you should swap the stroker out and a stocker in!!!

I guess the insurance adjuster has no idea what's under the hood huh?

It's not like it is banana or anything. If you can't pick it up for a day or two you should be good. Once the adjuster sends out the check, he may only have a few days before the truck comes for it. Get over there and pull that thing out.

I got the motor! Had to drag the 'donor' Jeep about a quarter mile via tow-chain &4lo to get it to where I could have the motor pulled, then back after it was done. Should there be any issues with hooking up a 4.0 out of a newer XJ with an auto-trans to an older one('90) with a 5-spd? What I meant about how long can the motor sit, it might be 6+ months before I can get it in my Jeep so do I need to do anything special to it to store it that long?

I just wonder what's wrong with your engine if you had to use 4 low to drag a Cherokee...and I'm hoping you weren't on pavement...My old 94 Tracker dragged a fullsize van in reverse. Not very fast and it probably contributed to the early demise of my clutch, but a Cherokee should be able to drag even a disable Cherokee in drive, 2hi.

EDIT:As far as storing, I'd say maybe put some stabilizer in the gas if it has any gas in it. Actually, it'd probably be better just to drain the fluids and put in some fresh oil, or if the oil is still fresh just make sure it doesn't get too old.

It got rear-ended at 90+mph by some kid in a Ram so the rear axle is snapped &detached from the frame and the back bumper in one spot is pushed to where your feet would be if you sat in the back, I used 4lo(on dirt) just because I didn't want to burn up my clutch
