Stripping a carcass

Ok, so I think the whole insurance thing is getting close to the end. I think there is enough value left in parts (spooled 4.88 D44 and two good MT/Rs anyhow) that I want to get the carcass back and strip it.
Does anyone know of someplace that I can take it and strip it at? For a share of the loot, some cash, or an MJ bed trailer (hey, I want to see part of this truck keep going at least)?

You can donate it, you may not need the tax deduction but they will generally take it and you can take what you want, just pre arrange everything

I don't have space at my townhouse. Heck when I even think of turning a wrench or using a drill people give me dirty looks & call the assoc. I don't care, I own my townhouse just like they do so kiss off I tell them. Anways I think that if you rented a storage unit that is big and wide enough, you could strip the mj and then arrange a time for it to be carted off. That is a later option if you cannot find someone who has room at their house. With the storage unit, you might be able to rent it for a few weeks or for 1 month and then strip it and get it out of there.

Yeah I just need a place and maybe a truck and trailer to tow it out of the salvage yard with. I'm going to be getting it back for $154 and stripping as much as I can.
Do the storage units have electricity, so I could plug in a compressor and run air tools? And a grinder, like for my freshly welded track bar bracket.

I'm glad you only have to pay $154 to buy it back, plus you will get the $2K amt you mentioned before, so you should be in pretty good shape to build another xj or mj real good. If you don't get the parts off and let the mj slid, then someone would have to pinch themselves to believe that someone left that on a vehicle and/or the salvage yard would make alot of $ of that thing. Grab it and strip the sucker for what it's worth. Is that mj in SF still available? You can probably hand the guy $600 or so cash and drive away with his mj.

$2900, less the $154 to buy back. I'm going to call about the MJ in a little bit, to make sure it's still there.
But Troy, my offer to you still stands. :shhh:

Remember the last thing I said before I burned it? "Now, I'm gonna put these beads where they're easy to get at with a grinder, in case you ever need to get them off."

Prophetic, in a tragic way.

I hope to make it out to RP this weekend to take a look at the GC. I think the guy still has it. I just went to the Boonie Bouncer's 4x4 meeting in Roseville and everyone was eyeing my xj. Most of these guys just have yj's with only about 4" lifts, not what you'd call Rubicon Ready, but many have done the trail. My alliance though is with NAXJA and you guys here. We need to get a monthly run now that the weather is getting warmer and alot of trails should be opening up.

I saw 2 mj on my way home from work, but they were in traffic and didn't have a "for sale" sign on them. If I get a chance I'll ask some people if they'd sell. Remember everything is for sale if you have cash and enough of it. Just ask people if they'd sell their mj or 2 door xj when you see one. I have seen a few mj's with slight body damage and somewhat in need of some tlc but hey they'd make a good trail rig. I highly suggest you use some of that money your getting from insurance do buy a reliable cheap commuter car or truck so that if/when your trail rig goes down, you have transportation plus with the gas prices being as high as they are a car would get alot better gm than your truck on 35's. Just my suggestion. How about getting 2 jeeps? Come on it's not that bad. A 4 door xj commuter and a 2 door or mj for wheeling. :D

Troy you just need to open a Jeep dealership!

Phil- I would be interested in making the bed into a trailer (if someone will help with that). I have a 3 car driveway :D It's kinda steep though so I'm not sure how good it will be for working on the MJ. :dunno:

I can't make any promises but I'll check with the Wife.

I know, I really want to, but for now I'm an Accountant. I'm always looking for deals and many times I cannot pull the trigger on them. I will try to find an mj for Phil if the 1 in sf is gone. It never hurts to ask someone if they'd sell their vehicle. If you have cash in your hand like Phil will, then you can get things pretty cheap if the person needs it bad enough.

I think he needs somewhere to park it while he's pulling his junk off it. I feel for ya Phil! Wish I could help you out!

I was thinking he could strip it out there, any wrecker should be willing to let you take what you want particularily with current steel prices. Heck if its at a salvage yard now just ask them.

The donation places will happily pick up the jeep wherever it is at. Just donate it with the understanding that you are keeping the springs and axles etc. and go to their yard and strip it.

As I was donating an old cherokee a few years ago I asked about keeping the axles if I was to donate another rig, they told me they would like to take it as a roller and that they would even pull the axles for me.

That would probably be your best bet Phil, then you don't have to cart that thing around everywhere only to find another salvage yard. Asking them if they would be o.k. with you stripping it, or they could for a fee I believe. JW in Antelope should be able to give you something for it, their prices are so high on used parts so you got to think they are shelling out good $ to get trucks that is if they don't pocket more than their fair share.

well that's good news, as good as it could be I guess. $150 is pretty good considering all the stuff that will still be usable. if the front MTRs are kinda burned, you could always sell them to guys here for spares, since that seems to be THE size and tire to have (i just got my 35" MTRs mounted today :p ).

I know you said that the aluminum box got melted some, if it was just the back, I'll buy it from you and weld a sheet of aluminum to the back to kinda fix it.

you should print out a bunch of little cards that say you may be interested in buying someones Jeep, then if you see a 2 door XJ or MJ in a parking lot you can leave them on the windsheild. heck, give my your phone number and i'll leave a note with your name and number on it on a red shortbed down the street.

I don't mean to speak for Phil, but the box was totally destroyed (melted). Mtr's are awesome and they held up good on Phil's truck even with all the fire blazing around them. I'm happy I have a set on my rig. The little card idea is good, people leave advertisement on my windshield, but when you are getting a cash offer and need the $ and don't have the $ or time to advertise it, you never know how many bites you can/will get. Between you (Phil) and the guys in NAXJA, we'll find you another rig. I'll have to start yelling at people in traffic that are driving a 2 door xj or mj.

Boy I tell ya what, I forgot there is an MJ sittin here on Mare Island with a traffic cone on the hood. Been here for at least a few weeks. Its nearly identical to your old torch. I'll get a pic on my way out this afternoon. It even has a little lift on it :D
