Strength of AW4 vs Manual trans

If you wait just a couple weeks I'll have my new model ready, which is really what I've been wanting from the beginning; a shifter that works on 2 momentary inputs (upshift/downshift) with a variety of pushbuttons, single axis joysticks, and paddle shifters available. There will also be 2 on/off switches, one for selecting auto or manual and one for torque convertor lock. There will also be 4 LED indicator lights to show you which gear you are in.
:D... I want one.

how many is a couple and have you come to a price yet? PM me pics of it when/if you get a chance when its ready for production please...

a couple means... well it means that I have a working prototype on my desk made from parts ordered individually, so I need to build up some supplies and work on the packaging a little before I can offer them officially. Prices will start somewhere $125-150 for the pushbutton and go up with joysticks and paddles.

Hi Brett,
Here is the my questions for your system.

1) Does it realy give total control? i mean when i put it in 3 gear will it go to 2 and 1 when the car slows down ? or will it stay in 3 as i wanted?

2)Whats the advantage or differences between BM type shifters bec my friend will give his for free but it was for 04 TJ

3)will i get quicker shifts with your system. are there any ways to make it even quicker

4)when i unlock tc dont you think it will hurt the acceleration

5) is it possible to change the gearing style with the new system
pulling it for stepping up gears and pushing forward for stepping down gears (would probably ok if we just put it backwards)

6) is the system easy for mounting the car can my electrician or mechanic can handle it?

7) after mounting it is it possible to get rid of the original auto stick
i dont want two sticks in the car

hmm guess my brake pedal button for the tc is stuck. Meh.

Wouldn't surprise me as that switch is a pretty crappy design. I had to clean the one I swapped in as it was so gunked up it didn't work. Easy test is to tap the brake pedal with your left foot while at crusing speed and see if the rpms jump a few hundred.

Total control when in manual mode. It will ONLY go to the gear you select and it will stay there until you select another gear or flip it back to auto.

2)Whats the advantage or differences between BM type shifters bec my friend will give his for free but it was for 04 TJ

B&M does not make an AW4/XJ shifter, and with good reason. Their's are purely mechanical and there would be no advantage versus the stock shifter, and you still wouldn't have 2nd gear. The AW4 is electronically controlled and anything modifying the mechanical shifter will not in any way keep it in that gear (ex. when in "3" it will shift freely between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd). My shifter modifies the electronics so that you can have true manual control.

3)will i get quicker shifts with your system. are there any ways to make it even quicker

The transmission will shift the same speed it always has, except you will control when it shifts, so if you find yourself wanting it to shift sooner (or later), this will allow that. You can change the tension on your TV cable (attaches to throttle body) to get "firmer" shifts.

4)when i unlock tc dont you think it will hurt the acceleration

Not at ALL. The TCM only locks the torque convertor when you are light on the throttle in 3rd or 4th gear.

5) is it possible to change the gearing style with the new system

I don't entirely understand what you're asking? Are you asking about the floor shifter with P,R,N,D,3,2-1? The only way to reverse that would be to reverse the whole thing and reroute the cable going to it. But that is unrelated to my shifter becuase that is all mechanical and my shifter is all electrical.

6) is the system easy for mounting the car can my electrician or mechanic can handle it?

The wiring portion of the install is VERY easy, and mounting the switches, joystick, or paddles can be as easy or difficult as you want to make it. Buttons would be easiest and all you would do is need to drill a few holes wherever you decide to locate the buttons and LEDs. Any mechanic could install it, but I think that's entirely unnecessary.

7) after mounting it is it possible to get rid of the original auto stick

No, you need the original stick to select park, reverse, neutral and drive. My electronics only control what gear you are in when in one of the drive positions. You won't need to have two sticks in the car, I will have paddleshifters and pushbuttons available as well.
