STOLEN JEEP

Cover your eyes Chris...

It's just a fawken car! It's not a capitol offense like kidnaping, murder etc. Sad to say that law enforcement has bigger fish to fry; this ain't Mayberry RFD. In a situation like this, police reports are for the insuarance companies. Be happy for that.

OK Chris, you can open again. I'm glad you got your Heep back. It's pretty cool that it's not a total loss. I heard of a guy in Aurora who reported some unique import stolen (I think he was away when it was stolen). The police didn't bother to tell him it was inpounded for processing as a felony crime scene. By the time it was returned to him, the weather had done damage to the interior. Nothing like buying unique parts for a unique automobile.

AWESOME!! So glad to hear you got it back... This time get an alarm and a club. Cheaper then the paranoia that you will have driving it as a DD.
This is what i went through after my Jeep got broken into at REI downtown. My lock was screwdrivered and the stole a bunch of jackets and backpack and other stuff. I was too paraniod to drive it until i secured it.. next is the kill switch.

From now on its Alarm and Club and Garage or well lit area or it stays home and i drive something else.. [family van or old beater 86 mercedes]

Yeah the cops don't give a hoot about getting the guys who did it. I had my Mustang broke into a few years back they took a report of what was missing and then said they would check the pawn shops. I was like thanks for nothing. I put a kill switch in my Mustang. Won't start unless you know where it is. Kinda pain in butt when I get in cause forget about it. But at least no one else will be able to start it without knowing about it.

And the youngster's ignorance comes blazing through.....

Brutha, there ain't a cop out there that doesn't enjoy snagging the crook. That's primarily why most cops do the job! You act as though Chris' Jeep was the only crime that happened that day and curse the cops as apathetic and lazy....... You need to re-examine your principles and pay more attention to the world around you.

Thing is, it's all about priorities. Property crimes are low on the list. And this thing about fingerprints..... Yeah, it'd be nice if there were enough cops and crime scene techs out there to devote the proper level of attention to every stolen car recovered....... but that just isn't realistic. And even if they found fingerprints other than Chris'...... how are you gonna prove they belong to the guy that stole the car? I bet at least 2 or more punks rode around in Chris' Jeep while it was missing...... who's prints belong to the one that broke the window and cracked the column? Have you looked at the interior of 99% of cars out there? Textured plastic, fabric and vinyl. Not good surfaces to take prints from. I'd also be willing to bet that it's entirely possible that the crooks were young enough to not have their prints on record yet. That's why auto theft is a good gang initiation ritual....... newbie banger isn't in the system yet..... prints are no good. Oh and not to mention that it's universally understood among crooks: Gloves - good, bare hands - bad.

Yeah, I would like to see them look at the Walmart tapes - on the off chance that the crooks actually used another car that could be traced back to them..... but in all likelyhood, it was another steal that they dumped and all jumped into the Jeep.

But I digress........

Chris, I should have the column and/or parts to repair the column too if you need 'em.

I meant it was low on there list of crooks to catch. Unless it red handed on the deal they are not going to put alot time into. Yeah they are real busy with other crooks when they are setting up speed traps. I drove by 10 cops in row in 2 mile strip on Hampton the otherday. One pulled me over and gave me ticket for speeding. So you are right they are real busy catching the bad guys.

Actualy I dont really care about if the catch them or not......I was "told" to expect black finger printing crap everywhere...It wasnt so I was suprised. I hope there are more important things to do then chase petty car thieves.

I am glad I dont have to fully rebuild it, the electronics and tools are easy to replace (if insurance comes through).

Just got back from alarm shopping as soon as I get the insurance inspection done I will be over to troys house of heeps for parts and glass.

Kill switch is in the works already and maybe just maybe if I replace the Co2 tank I can rig a way to make it leak as the alarm goes off.... sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

WEG

Its all good I am happy I dont have to rebuild it.
Life lesson
BUY ALARM FIRST

some chick assaulted my GF in king soopers of all places, lol. the CRPD was all OVER that.
That's a crime against a person - HUGE difference in priority. As much as we love 'em, our Jeeps are just property, and property is replaceable.

Ill keep and eye open. Ill be around Broadway and 12th for a good 5 hours Dec 31 for the Bad Boy Bill New Years Eve Party at Vynil. Alot of people will be there so Im hoppng for good odds. Well if someone gets out of Chris' Jeep now, don't ruff him up. It's likely Chris....

Unless his Jeep gets stolen again.....

"it seemed like it would be driveable"....

They'd be saying that about mine (if it were stolen) even if nothing had been damaged by the crooks....

So what your saying is that if it's not a violent crime or a theft of more money than a vehicle is worth then cops don't have the time or resources to put on the case. Criss's Jeep needs to be handled by the insurance company with little effort to find the crook. Sorry to be confrontational and I understand you guys are streched thin but I would think that an all out man hunt for this petty theif would not only stop him but discourage others. Car recyclers, auto body shops and new car dealers have no problem with car theft because it puts bread on their table. It's big business thats been around long enough to know how to stop it but it does not get stoped. Hmmm.

Oh this one is going to make me unpopular, but they seem to have plenty of resources to sit around and write tickets for going 10 over. hasta

Years ago I had my 69 RT stolen. I had tools, a case of racing oil, racing filters, and a creeper in the truck. Insurance wouldn't give me a penny for that stuff. In the back seat I had a long heavy coat with a fur collar (my girlfriend called it my Bear coat), a boyscout DI beaver felt hat, leather gloves, and a car blanket which the insurance reimbursed me way more than than I thought they would which sure helped to off set that replacement costs of my tools.

Well we all know and like Troy so we can bust his stones. Hate to pick on a nice stand up guy but you know he has to be a tuff mofo to do what he does so he can handle it.

Glad to hear you got it back. Horrible feeling to walk out and not see it where you left it huh. I've definitely seen your rig on the roads and I've always done a double take, nice rig.

FWIW the cops printed mine when it was stolen earlier this year. Even asked me if I minded if they kept it an extra day to do so. It might have just been a statement in the form of a question but they still said it and you bet I let them hang onto it.

Auto insurance covered the damage to the jeep and my renters insurance covered all the stolen contents. I STLL need to get an alarm in mine so if you come across something good at a decent price PM me!

Well if you guys like I can talk to my buddie who is a car audio and alarm dealer and see what kind of price I can get for you on alarms . He carries the crimestopper brand and can do any setup you want as far as keyless entry to remote start etc etc....If interested let me know year of xj or any other vehical you would like to put an alarm on and i can get prices for you...

Yer right Mike.... I am one tough mofo....... :D

But seriously, I only objected to 'Stang's blanket statement because the public (particularly the public that don't have law enforcement in the family) truely have no clue how things work.

To put the blame strictly on the Cops, the guys in the patrol cars is ignorant. Anyone who thinks the patrolmen out there have total authority to dictate what they'll do, when they'll do it and how they'll do it is sadly mistaken. The upper level administrators (Chiefs, Captains, Lieutenants and even Sergeants) are responsible for how many Cops are assigned to pro-active police work, how many are assigned to traffic duty, and how many are assigned to work investigating crimes. Many cities have to survive on the revenue they can build..... so yeah, it'll seem like there's more cops writing tickets and not looking for "real crime". Law enforcement costs big money, so do you want higher taxes? Or let the speeders take up some of the slack?

But seriously, if the public actually knew how much pro-active policing and criminal investigations were currently being done...... would we in fact be doing our job correctly? To advertise what the Cops do would be to shoot themselves in the foot....... just as criminals thrive on the element of surprise and deceit, so must the Cops.

People also need to realize that when they call the Cops to go tell their neighbor to move the trashbags on the curb that are inches over the property line...... they're taking up time that could be used for other means.

Not to mention that if all calls for police service were treated with top priority, then the Cops would be busy all the time...... there has to be a handful of Cops available to respond to emergencies...... oh, say like a gunman at a church or school ...... or would you rather they all were settling neighbor disputes and looking for auto theives.......

That's my perspective anyway - not trying to fan any flame wars..... :D
