Stocking the Jeep

Why is the Mag in the back? Because there's always a SureFire G2 on my belt (I'll be converting that to LED as well one of these days - just haven't done it yet. The original bulb is still going fine.) Check the batteries in your Mag about every quarter, as conventional alkalines do drain.
I would think twice about converting the G2 over to led. While it increases the battery life they are terrible at cutting through smoke and fog. If you need a light to see where something popped you could verry well be in that type of situation. or if you need to get out of a house that is filled with smoke the LEDs are just about useless.

Oh and I would definatally add a rifle to the list just cant leave the house without one. kinda like the spare tire you never need it till you leave it home.

Even the new high-flux LEDs? I've not checked one directly, but I seem to recall that the LED conversion is about 65 lumens, and the xenon bulb is 60. Or is it the colour temperature?

Anyhow, I'm not too worried - there's the one I keep on my belt, and the one that lives in the drawer of my nightstand (right next to my sidearm. Kids are grown, and know how to shoot and handle firearms anyhow...)

It's a color temp thing saw a great display at a tac class I took and it sold me on keeping the regular bulb in the carry light.

PS glad to here I am not the only one who teaches the kid's to shoot they should all know!

That was the key question - why? It probably has something to do with how the LED makes light. An LED is a "coherent emitter" - it's going to make one wavelength (colour) of light, and that's it. To make "white," it has to be a UVA LED, with a phosphor coating on the inside that gets excited in the presence of UVA (and then emits a white light as a result, rather like a fluorescent bulb.) That is probably it.

Although, I'm mildly surprised they haven't come up with an amber high-flux LED - it wouldn't be a bad idea...

hm. lets see. in my jeep i carry:

first aid kit.
Map(s).
one fixed blade knife.
another fixed blade survival knife (the kind with matches, fishing hook ect. hidden in the handle.)
a few pocket knives (swiss army, every day buck knife)
signal mirror,
poncho,
mag light,
head light (gives you both hands to work with),
a cheap flashlight that came in my emergency road side kit
jumper cables
a can of fix-a-flat
fire starter (magniseum/flint)
matches
hatchet
machette
knife sharpener
electrical tape
disposable camera (incase i get in an accident, i can take pictures)
a few bottles of water
various tools
gloves
a blanket
2 jacks (the bottle jack that came stock with the jeep and a small flor jack)
all of my climbing gear (carabiners, belay device [atc and figure 8], shoes, harness, an emergency harness, and rope)
in addition to the 50' climbing rope i have another 50' in various other rope.
some bungee cords
and usually some extra clothes

haha its alot but im an eagle scout. i have to "be prepared"

I use the lint out of my dryer saved in a pill bottle and a magnesium fire starter. The big fire extinguisher is mounted where the OEM spare tire was b/c it is now on the roof rack. My little fire extinguisher is by the front seat as others have theirs but mine is on the passenger side. I keep a mag light on my side and several tie wraps, a multi-bladed screwdriver and a KaBar are occupying my side.

Great help so far folks, I'm kinda shocked XCastleJ is the first one that mentioned jumper cables(I think) As for a rifle, I will be getting some sort of locking box to store my CCW in-does that count? :)
How big of a fire extinguisher will fit between the driver's seat and door? I'm wanting to mount a 5lb fire extinguisher-I don't think it will fit there :(

Funny this thread popped up.I have been stocking my jeep also.Look for my thread called "started my rear storage"once I get it done it will house all the stuff listed below plus some and still have a fully available cargo area for cargo.;)

Also add these if you haven't already.
**SPARE CPS!!!
**alternator and belt
**starter
**fuel pump
**ignition switch
**power steering hoses
If you wheel alone these items are mandatory!!!

Besides what was already mentioned:
Repair manual.
leaf spring center pins
hose clamps, muffler clamps.I once repaired A buddies chevy that had a broken steering shaft with a muffler clamp....got him off the trail.
Gas tank repair epoxy.
hand cleaner and paper towels
Silicone and other "liquid" tools.
emergency gasoline
ratchet straps
small compressor to fill tires after you plug them(you did bring the tire plugs, right?)
tarp for when you have to crawl under your rig for repairs in the mud
trash bags can be used to drain fluids into, double or even triple bag so they don't leak
radiator hose repair kit.Bottle of stop leak.Coolant.
Brake fluid. If you break a rubber line you can twist the steel line shut with vise grips.
various lengths of electrical wire.I bought a cheap extension cord for a couple bucks and use the wire from that in an emergency. Can be cut to fit.

Mess kit, canned food with easy open top.Beef jerky has a long shelf life.Trail mix.
survival kit.I keep a back pack stocked with LED flashlight, poncho, knife, food, water and purification tabs and a Small survival guide.A small amount of tin foil to form a container to cook in.Water proof matches and my homebrew fire starter(see below)

About the firestarter....I use empty skoal cans filled with a few cotton balls drenched in alcohol based hand sanitizer.Take the top off, light it and put the whole can under some tender, even after the cotton ball/alcohol is used up the plastic can will start to burn assuring you a fire even in wet conditions.

OH,and don't forget the ASS PAPER!!!!Pine cones are bullshit!!!
I can't beleive nobody mentioned bug spray either!!

A Hi-lift is my only jack. They can be dangerous if you try to lift your rig up high enough for the suspension to unload and lift the tire(especially if you have a flexy rig)Use a ratchet strap wrapped around the axle and frame to keep it from articulating.
This is where my hi-lift and fire extinguisher live:

Keep a bottle of wild turkey in the glove box incase you forgot the toilet paper and have to resort to the pine cones.hahahaha

I carry alot of things in mine too. I even have a full trauma kit (I am an EMT) but the MOST helpful thing has been this:

100_0174.jpg

15,000,000 candle power. Recharges out of XJ or home and and run straight off of a 12v suply. It has come in HANDY with night time repairs

Its cool all the things we can carry and use isn't it? When I live I can run lights and sieren. I also have O2 in my XJ.

Hmm...I saw a red 80's XJ lifted about 4-6" driving down beltway 8 at about 4 o'clock today. It had a rear tire carrier, but no tire mounted there.
