sticky situation with 93 zj

I have a 93 ZJ with 150k miles on it that has thrown a rod and will either need a new engine or need the existing one rebuilt. This car is very important to me and has been in the family since new. I really don't want to have to sell it or part it out but I would have to get someone else to install/rebuild the engine and I know that can get expensive. I also know that the cost of it might be greater than the car is worth.

What would you all suggest? My parents are taking it to the dealer tomorrow...

Look on craigs list, or local junkyards, find a cheap engine and rebuild iit it means something to you. If you have something else to drive while working on it that would be great so your not rushed. And if you dont know how then you can always come to the forums for help :looser:

Stay away from the dealer. Your looking at a good 3 to 5 grand threw themFind a junkyard that warehouses motors. You can find one for 2-500 bucks. Then find a jeep specialist mechanic (they're everywhere). All said and done should be less then 1500.

DEALERSHIP? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! You should be able to find a motor for cheap 4.0s are everywhere.

Rebuild it. Stroke it out! I would say DIY or find a friend that has the tools and barter with him. It wont take long to find the parts you need and get them ready for a rebuild.

The dealership will sadly charge far too much.

if i recall the mopar rebuilds are 2800-3000, not cheap, but it does come with a warranty, if it craps out again, just take it to the dealer and its their problem

Which motor does your ZJ have? I6 or the 318?
