I need to replace stock SS; it's leaking pretty good. Any reason to upgrade to Skyjacker's, OME's stabilizer? Or stick w/ stock? Any thoughts would be appreciated...
I used the OME stabilizer and it works fine. Oh yeah, what Rich said. You may want to use a 2 or 3 jaw puller, and leave the loosened nut on the bolt so it stops the bolt when it breaks free instead of shooting off inn some poor bystanders head...
On my first XJ, I don't remember which bolt was which. What I do remember is messing with a bold that would not come out. My wrench wouldn't take it out. Banging on it with various hammers for an hour would not work on it. Finally getting tired of the BS, feeling around the bolt with my finger, the thing came right out. It isn't that hard. Maybe take some PB Blaster to the bolts to let the soak for a while.
I just went with a cheap Pro-comp SS. I guess it worked ok. My vibes were much better.
I replaced stock with another stock stabilizer and it lasted no more than 25K miles - probably shoulds have replaced it earlier than that. I have an OME on now - too early to tell about longevity.
You're going to notice a difference in driveability with any new stabilizer but the OME have good quality components ( my OME shocks have 60K on them so far and going strong ).
