Steering jumping/binding issue

Come by my house anytime tomorrow or Thursday. I'm in Wheat Ridge off Kipling and can at least provide an educated eyeball. We can at least check your toe and angles pretty easily.

PM me for an address.

Hey Colorado!

I've been informed by ColoradoRaptor to post to the Colorado chapter...
ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

It sounds like your axle shaft U-Joints are dried up and binding. I might have a little time after 4:00 PM on Wednesday, can even meet up at SolarBell's house.

hahaha I know :)

dangit I'll have to be to work no later than three tomorrow

Dried up? Is that something that can be greased

..........:D

so if they are bad, I wonder if its OK to drive on them for a while....
If they are bad, when they go, they can inflict other damage. Changing the axle U-Joints is a project I'd rather do on my terms.

We could make a fun day of it! I need to change mine out too....

that'd be cool. Aren't these joints pressed in? Doesn't this type of project generally need a machine press to be done correctly? I know auto stores rent those cheap hand press things, but didn't know how well or efficient they worked

Party at SolarBell's!

I've done ball joints with the rental ones and they work fine. Nice to have a torqy impact. I've not done U-Joints but watched a few videos and it doesn't seem to bad.

hell yea beer at 9 in the morning it is!

I jacked it up today and I can't get the wheels/tires to replicate any signs of ujoints going bad. I turned the wheels to the similar spot I notice the jumping and they seemed to rotate pretty smooth. I really hope its just a alignment/tire issue. New tires go on tomorrow or Friday. And I think solarbell is going to help me look things over tomorrow. Which is quite generous.

I noticed a metal on metal kind of clanking sound. I noticed this after I replaced with a new jks track bar and forgot to grease the zert. I greased it and it seemed to disappear. It seems to have came back today after only thirty miles or so. Do those those things need frequent greasing when new? I'd be surprised if it needed it already

Re: Re: Steering jumping/binding issue

Told ya there were some good peeps over here ;)
you were correct about that! solar flex looked at my jeep today. super nice guy and really SMART. He got my track bar up to spec. We decided the ujoints are good for now. The binding was in fact insignificant enough to be considered "normal", I just get paranoid after I've done the work myself.

anyway, solarflex is rad (thanks for the loctite) and also thanks to everyone else that has interacted with me thus far. I plan on posting a trip report of my upcoming lake city trip.
