Steering is worn out - Stock/V8ZJ vs. IRO

So....does the IRO just use stock xj tre's?
It uses the same 3096 that is stock on the XJ and stock on the ZJ V8. IIRC the question was ZJ V8 stock or IRO.

What are you running?
Nothing special. IRO tierod and UCAs, RE LCAs, JKS track bar, JKS discos, and Addco sway bar. But I am only at 3.5" of lift and 31" tires.

The last steering modification I did was the IRO stuff. And even though the stock stuff was still good it made the steering a lot more precise. Caster stayed the same as well.

I was considering upgrading to IRO's full steering kit:

as it's about the same price as all new Moog steering (w/ v8zj tie rod) from ORielly's. I now see that rockauto is quite a bit cheaper. I don't need to upgrade now, I just figured it might be better than rebuilding now and upgrading later. Maybe I'll just kick the can down the road a bit and decide later.

On the subject of TRE's: What are the opinions of MOOG (federal) Vs. Raybestos pro grade (DANA). Ive heard MOOG's quality has drooped, and I have never had a bad product from Raybestos (only use the their pro grade parts).

the zj upgrade is nice imo just for the fact that the tie rod ends are larger then all the tie rod upgrades out there that I have found. You don't need the drag link, just the v8 rod and watever ends u decide to replace.

Why upgrade the tie rod but leave the ends tiny dinky stock xj ends? Either v8 zj or just go for a full aftermarket kit if your steering is that worn out..

Moog sucks! I always heard good things about them but not in my case. I installed all new ball joints now 20k miles later they ALL need to be replaced again. I'm going with spicers or xrf if I can find them cheap enough.

Yeah thats what everyone seems to think nowadays. Its a shame since most of federals products are top notch.

If you're looking for bolt on, definitely get the Currie kit. It's worth the money if you start to wheel it in the rough stuff.

I;ve seen more wadded up stock tie rods and drag links than I can remember.

This.

I wasted money on a beefy TnT tie rod, bent it on my first day wheeling. The Currie tie rod has veeeery slightly bent over a few years of hard wheeling, but from what I hear you can just bend it back in a press and it's fine. 1.5" of solid steel and huge TREs.

I really like the Currie setup, it's just the price point. And the fact that if I do grenade a TRE, it's Currie only, no local parts slop will have it. I've yet to hear 1 complaint about that steering setup. I was gonna go JCR, but the whole dead spot with the over the knuckle put me off, especially since the wife drives it on a regular basis

Have you considered hitting up the JY for the ZJ tie rod? I know you can get them for like $10-20 a pop, then go to the parts store and get yourself some new TRE's and what not. You'd be in this project for much less $$

also, are you pricing out a new drag link as well? if so, thats probably not necessary. the ends are probably worn, chances are the drag link is fine

This is what I did.
