Steering intermediate shaft u joint

hard to imagine that joint wearing out, but anything is possible.

I've not done it, but it looked like a single piece that would need the joint welded in. also my slip joint was really tight when I did the steering gear inner brace and patched everything up.

well it would seem your on track, I pulled the shaft off the steering box that I'm replacing and it seems to have some play in the slip joint. If I collapse it, the slip joint tightens up, dang it.

I appreciate the thought though

If anyone wanted it the u joint I was referencing was found here: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/steering-u-joint-replace-235721/

I'm not sure where you were thinking it would be welded in, both joints seems to be a pressed fit from a glance.

me neither. I removed it from the gear and went on with my project... good luck with yours

They are a press fit then I think the ears are dimpled so caps are locked in. They are standerd size you can get the ujoint on ebay and from borgeson.

The jeep shaft is pretty good. I just put one on my 76 f150 helped tighten up steering alot compared to the rag joint.

I did have to change the length and one end to mach the ford steering wheel.
