Removing Rear Drive Axle-

I've got the 2 U-bolts removed. On the opposite side (transfer box side) there's a ribbed rubber boot that end of the drive shaft fits in to. At the point where the drive shaft enters the rubber boot there's a metal band around the rubber boot. Does that metal band need to be removed, or do I leave it in place when removing the drive shaft?
Thanks!

There's 4 bolts holding the U-Joint to the rear axle yoke. Once all 4 are out your can unseat the U-Joint from the yoke and slide the shaft splines out at the transfer case. No need to touch the boot.

Late model T-case output is different from most. The splines are outside of the T-case.

I believe you need to remove the metal band which is closest to the T-case. If you are careful about how you release it you may be able to re-use it.

It has been a long time since I switched to an SYE, but I do recall having to remove the forward-most band clamp. I just don't recall the exact type of clamp used.

Thank you for the replies. I’m wondering if I did remove that metal band any thoughts about using a simple hose clamp to take the place of that strap if I couldn’t reuse it?

I would be more inclined to use a zip tie just to keep the profile smaller.

Just a follow up. Did manage to remove the rear drive shaft. Of those 2 silver metal bands on the rubber boot, had to wind up unhooking the one closest to the transfer box. I think I may be able to snap it back closed when the shaft is reinstalled otherwise the zip tie suggestion should work fine. Thanks again for the help.
