Speaker rewire

I've search for info on what I'm about to ask but I'm not finding a definitive answer. First, I have a 2000 XJ without the Infinity system and no amp. I have only one speaker (LR) working. The drivers door speaker only works when the door is open. I've replaced the head unit and the stock speakers with new ones but I still have no sound. What I want to do is rewire all four speaker wires - the front doors appear to be pretty straight forward on what needs to be removed to do it, however, for the rear, I really don't want to have to remove the headliner/carpet/seats it if I don't have to.
If I were to solder the new wires to the old wires and put a piece of heat shrink tubing around the weld (to help eliminate snagging) would I be able to fish the new wires through when I pull the old ones out, or am I looking at making this a real mess by doing that?

Thanks!

Just remove the boot that covers the wires.Look for the broken wires and repair them.I did this on my stock doors cause it was fast and easy. Slide the boot back and forth to see wires. Or at this point just slide in new wires to speakers.

The rear speaker wires are part of the main wire harness bundle and will not pull out. Simply remove enough trim to run fresh wires if needed.

Fixing/replacing the front door speaker wires may fix the rear speakers.

take the rubber boots off at the door looms, and look for a 2 into 1 wire with a clear cover. Mine was green. Usually the speaker wires tear off at the clear cover. I simply spliced in a new wire at my front doors and bingo, they worked again.I did update it with Kickers F&R and a DUAL headunit as well while I was in there.

however, for the rear, I really don't want to have to remove the headliner/carpet/seats it if I don't have to.

Did you ever have any success rewiring the rear speakers? I was going to attempt mine today but I couldn't fish a guide wire down through the hatch and gave up. I still have most of the interior out so I might attempt it again before it all goes back together. I'm adding dual amps (mains and sub) and hate to run all that extra power through the stock wires.

You can use a wire hanger to fish the wire. I added wiper/washer , tailgate release and speakers to mine. Later remved the speakers to add a speaker pod. Speakers are a little heavy for the tailgate and speaker pod has better sound. Mine had only door speakers so i needed to add wire to tailgate, though there was a harness that ended at the 1/4 panel on the gas cap side.
