So does any one live near Kylertown/Frenchville / Keewaydin?

My family has a cabin and 30 acres out there near the Moshannon state Forrest.

We got word yesterday that there was a fire out there that took some or all of the land. They say that the cabin/ campers are ok but I am still waiting on pictures and the likes.

The only thing I have heard so far is that some one pitched a cigarette while driving through on the dirt road that splits our land.:smoker::flame::flamemad::smsoap::twak:

I am super bummed, work and other crap has me grounded here until may 16th and I am dying to get up there and see what the damage is.

Any one live out there near it?

ouch! good luck, hope everything turns out alright...

I'm like 45 min to an hour away. I'd drive out and check it out for you, but I'm swamped with work too...It's finals week and they refused to adjust my hours at work. If something changes and I can take a trip out I'll let you know though. If not, let us know how everything turns out.

Thanks guys...
a friend of my dad's said he was going to take some pictures, so if they show up I think we can rest at ease...
I will post up pictures if I get them..

I have a cabin up in clearfiled about 5 miles from lance right near the centre/ clearfield line. My stepfather is up there now i will try to call him.

I am not familiar with Lance, but clearfield/centre is not very far away.
That would be awesome if he had a way of getting pictures, and wanted to go for a drive.
It does require about 6" of ground clearance and willingness to get wet tires... but its a heck of a nice drive .... well it was... I don't know how much burned... Let me see if i can dig up Gps Coordinates or an address.

Thanks, biggest insult to injury... the last 2 years I have heated my house entirely from fire wood off that land... I hope its not all burned...

Well! A friend of the family sent pictures...
it looks like the cabin is fine, and there still may be some of the land that is not scorched.

i'm sorry to hear that...

look at the bright side... now you have a new trail on the property, and didn't even have to do any work for it! ;)

Doesn't seem to be any major damage; I hope that is in fact that case...I'm glad to hear the cabin's alright

Those pics look familiar. We were at our cabin in Cameron County just a little northeast of Clearfield last month when someone at the bottom of the mountain decided to burn trash on a breezy dry day. Needless to say the fire got away from him and came up the mountain to within a few hundred yards of our cabin. Probably burned 80-100 acres. If it wasn't for the 4 loads dropped from a plane to extinguish the fire our cabin would have been in serious jeopardy.

Its been dry in the northern part of the state this spring and the area has been plagued by small forest fires. There was another the same day as ours and two more nearby the following week.

Yeah, BIG sigh of relief that the camp is safe.

We are already making plans for a Jeep trail that goes all the way around the property.. and this fire is a big start :-/

Yep, there are the makings of a big arsed trail there. Too bad the debris left from that is such a hassle to get rid of. It's scary how dry everything is , even with rain the last few days.

Another plus, if you hunt, the deer are going to be all over that burnt area once it starts growing again. Look at it like you got a free controlled burn on your property, whether you wanted one or not!! I would pick a few openings that got burned (make some if there aren't any good ones already), clear a few lanes and keep them clear, and then it should be like shooting fish in a barrel....only deer in the woods....
