Snorkel guinea pig.

make sure you buy some silicone. all the joints need to be sealed properly. even the stock box has to be sealed. thats if you plan on actually using it in deep water.

Thanks for the heads up. I dont plan on doing anything to deep, but ya never know, plus sometimes the approach can dip ya in to start. Read a few posts about people asking about them, a few have bought, never saw much on actually using one. Biggest complaint about them I saw was a lot are made out of fiberglass, I found one that wasnt so thought I would try.

I bought one too... started install today.
Have fender cut and will install tomorrow.
I think I will go to AutoZone or such and see if I can get a better duct work.Something like on the cold air intakes.
I had a Safari in my last truck and really I don't see a lot of difference besides the duct tubeing.
Open to all and any more suggestions :)

Specter makes a sealed inline high flow air filter housing thing that would be pretty trick to use instead of the factory box. It would help with air flow and free up some space for other accessories since the housing would take up less space. Just a thought.

Someone in the chapter has the Spectre kit installed on their junk (xjtrailrider?)

It looks amazing, too.

I just finished mine :) There is no way you should use the duct that comes with it... too cheap.

I used pvc under the fender until turn down to the air filter bottom. I then used some good flex (not real flexible) duct and rubber PVC joint fittings. With RTV and clamps I think I will be OK. It's not a $500 setup but I am very satisfied.

All that is left is straighten the fender mounting up some. I took fender and front off for easy access. Oh and find a water bottle for fluid.

So what about this I like mine (this setup) and Ive been through headlight deep water a fewtimes with it and its been great .40$ at the bone yard and home depot for all the stuff(buick airbox). It took me 2 hours to get it all figured out right .

Sorry I did not take pics from the beginning as I did not figure anyone cared…much ;)
The install in the fender was pretty much just place the template carefully, mark and drill.
I removed the fender to cut and drill first but would have had to anyway.

The kit comes with a cheap poorly fitting flex hose… I did not use.
It also comes with a fitting to go on the stock airbox.
I RTV’d and bolted it in place.

I wish I had taken pics but did not. I used some PVC 90degree fittings and flex hose bought at Lowes to complete the hookup of snorkel to the stock airbox. It worked and would definitely work for a Mall Crawler. However running the tube and such down under the fender and up to the airbox left it very vulnerable. Any flex and my tire would have destroyed it and this XJ of mine only has 31’s.

So I started again and went with an inline filter from Spectre. Cost was additional but I think well worth it and I’m still spending less than for a Safari. So I removed fender again and started the process of going straight to engine bay through the inner fender.

I could probably have drilled another 3” hole for the 90 degree fitting but I just cut it out to prevent and rubbing.

On the end of the snorkel inside the fender I installed the 90 degree hose.

I than put fender back on and started on the engine bay. I had also purchased the Spectre mount for the inline filter so that helped a lot. I also had purchased an older model XJ in the bay windshield washer bottle. After removing the airbox it was an easy install just ran all the connector up to back and connected back up 

Notice I had to purchase a 90 degree for the intake also… this one has to be a 2 1/2 “ on intake and other end 3” for filter.

Here you can see the washer bottle it was not installed just set in for fit.

Here is the final install… if you have questions or want to see specific pics I will try and get them for you and answer any questions.

you'll want a small filter on that front CCV hose-- as it sits, you're ingesting unfiltered air into the crankcase and increasing the odds of damaged cylinder walls and rings.

Thanks... yes I have added a filter before driving it. Can post pic if needed but just a little cone filter bought at O'Reillys. My son also gave me a good suggestion. I'm going to replace the 4" connector fitting with an accordian style flexible type connector. That will allow for flex from engine torque.

The filter is "washable" I guess I will wait and see :)
