I've always been a WARN owner and love the 8274 but I want something newer and possibly a horizontal model but I cant afford anything WARN has new. What is a good affordable/dependable winch? I see the MM and SB's priced fairly reasonable but know nothing about them or anybody who has either one.

My mile marker worked once and never worked again.
By once I mean one pull it didn't even retract back in.
Now I have winch cable zip tied to my bumper :).

I replaced the solonoids still dead. No good.

Which did you have? My Smittybilt XRC10 has been good so far. It hasn't been used real heavily, but it did get a bit of a workout pulling my brother's truck up onto his trailer with no ramps...had to overcome about a foot high ledge, with 39s though. It started to pull my Jeep towards the truck, but then the truck started to climb (not running). Pulled a Prius out of some sand...not really a workout but still funny to me.

i have the 8000 smittybuilt and its not fast, but gets the job done. i also dont use it all the time.

whoops fixed it was a MM 12000SE

My milemarker has worked fine the few times I have needed it. It has never overheated and it is a very strong 12000 pound pull is what it is rated for.

I was able to find a WARN M8000 for $539, $90 more than the Smittybilt XRC8 comp w/synthetic. I could always go synthetic in a few years I guess. I found some feedback on line on the Smittybilt and it is mixed reviews, people either love them or hate them.

I bought a smittybuilt XRC 8000 LB winch at Carlisle truck show this summer for $379 from 4 wheel parts and it has performed great but I agree with the others that it isn't fast. I would have no problem recommending one....

My XRC10 was 399.99 from Winchdepot.com. I ordered synthetic cable as well for another $200. I figured for ~$600 shipped, I got a 10k lb winch with decent reviews, synthetic line, and a hawse fairlead. Compared to every Warn I could find at $600 for 8k with steel cable as the cheapest I could find.

I have a mile marker 8000 lber and it works ok. Im not sure if its fast ive never had to compare it to anything. It works and I got it for free, thats all that matters.

So you bought it?

I really like my Superwinch EP9.0. I bought it from DetoursUSA. I've used it everytime I've been out riding and it's done really good.

smitty 8k with syn rope - amsteel blue and spidertrax fairlead - works great no issues over a year except for the rust and fasing of exterior of winch...

No nothing yet. I have a local wheeler that wants to trade me a WARN XD9000i with a bad motor even for the WARN Belleview that I have. The Warn 9000 has only been used a few times and the local wheeler has a good reputation for selling stuff in good shape. He wants the old Belleview for a old CJ he is resto'ing. Warn wants $400 for the motor but I think i can find one cheaper.
