Slow start XJ - bought BMW part - where to install??

on the 87 it is on the front of the fuel rail, it is held in by a few screws on the fuel rail bracket, the return line to the tank is on the driverside, and the vacuum supply line is on the other side by the valve cover. you can check it buy pulling the vacuum line off and turning the key on if fuel comes out of the nipple where the vacuum line goes on the regulator is bad. do not do this while the motor is hot because the exhaust manifold is right below it. As far as price goes, my dealer did not have one, and they are discontinued, we got one from napa for 70 bucks, they are not cheap so check it first.

Thanks, I ordered the BMW part today, it is like 5 bucks. The guy at the BMW place said it will be in next week. If that doesn't work I will try the Fuel Pressure Regulator.

i just put a reman motor in mine, along with a gas tank, fuel pump,i.a.c.valve,new battery and a tune up(why wouldn't you?).point being,it starts a little sooner, but i would think that with what i've seen in this thread, maybe there's something to the oil pressure theory.

I installed the BMW check valve today, the cost of the part was $6.20 with tax. The guy at the BMW place said their system showed that I was the only person to ever order that part from them. It starts about .46 seconds sooner, but the check valve in conjunction with my ThermoSteel'd header start 1.17 seconds quicker than it used to. It still let me prime the fuel too. I should also say that I drove it around the block to get the fuel flowing, so results from this install aren't from the first start.

Here is a video showing the differences in start times between stock and my fixes.

Okay what is thermosteel and why would putting it on your header help your start times?
... wait never mind you had the crack in your header above the 02 sensor ...
Part of the thread I glossed over :)

It fills in the cracks. You can see in the video I posted the difference it made. You can get it at AutoZone for about $7.00. I had to redo mine after the first time. On the package it recomends to use a wire mesh for large cracks, and the first time I didn't do that. The second time I redid it with a wire mesh (I found a roll of screen door mesh in our shop, and that is what I used) So far it is holding up. The ThermoSteel will handle up to 2400 degrees.

Here is the thread I found that got me to try it.
