still not sure what all im going to do about this but here it goes.....

found what i thought was the perfect 305 for my project but it was in jefferson city (about 45 minutes north of knoxville) and im at work... for only $200 Z28 HO 305 from an 87 camaro... perfect! roller cam, has the newer style headers to fit my TPI system. almost complete engine (needed distributer and headers) guaranteed in writing to run... had lots of calls already and only 3 days old on craigslist so its a hot item!!!

sounds perfect and all of this just for $200 PERFECT! wrong...

turns out it was from a z28 (maybe) but in no way was it a roller cam HO or the correct year model for the heads...

guy feels bad because it wasnt what he said he sold me, and wants to rectify it by finding an engine for me that would work and trading them out with me, and i just want my money back... (he seriously seems like an honest guy and we are both in a tight spot now) sob story later and no time or way to get it back to him (picked it up at his buddies shop, and doesn't have a cherry picker at his house, and already spent some of the money, whether i bought it today or not...)


did i mention that i had shortdoug pick it up for me and pay out of pocket till i could meet up with him tonight... so im sick to my stomach pissed because its not even my money and time that was spent today to get an engine that i cant even use nor return until he either finds something or can refund my money...

so now i have a 305 guaranteed to run that i cant use, and what beats it all is team willys finds a perfect built 305 roller cam TPI set up and running engine i can buy in town locally from a guy down the street... for what i would have had in a regular 305 after i put all the parts needed to complete my TPI project...

perfect timing i tell you... perfect...

still not sure exactly what im going to do about all this....

and yes going up there and beating the money out of him has already been presented to me... :lecture:

perfect timing... its not too lte to sell the 305 in the back of my truck... i saw the camaro the odometer was only at 80k its worth more than youve got in it

I say sell the 305 you just bought.

First pay your friend for the motor and gas/time for picking it up

Second, borrow the money for the other motor that is local

Third, sell the motor you just bought and can't use and maybe make $50 on it and pay your lender off for the loan you just got and maybe give them a few bucks for helping you in a pinch.

Only kidding. I was just as mad as he was, I stressed and stressed and stressed the importance of checking the heads by looking at the valve covers. Let me explain: 87 and newer 305 has center bolt valve covers, which means the intake will bolt on. The 2 center bolts on each side of the intake go in at a more straight up and down angle than the bolts on the ends where as the earlier models had all the bolts going in at the same angle. If it is a true HO out of a camaro, then that also means that it is a roller cam, which basically means its got 30 more lb ft of torque and 20 more HP than its flat tappet brother.

Lol, doug, next time I see you Im gonna say thanks for getting the engine for Blake, then Im gonna smack you across the head for not checking it! haha. Like you said though, Im sure he can sell it for at least what he has in it, but this just puts us behind schedule... who knows how long it will take to get another one, a right one. And, one more thing, what if we find one? Ive got a lead on one from a 94... but even if its a good deal he won't be able to afford it b/c he spent his money on one he cant use...

Obviously, this part of it is mostly why i feel sick, other than the fact i got scammed...

i doubt im making any money, especially if you factor in time/gas for me and/or doug

couldnt have said any more simply...

i have half a mind to take some friends some with muscle some with iron/brass and get my money back and dump the engine in his yard... but i dont want to go to jail over this...

I would do whatever it takes. He said it was an 87, which its not. That is false advertising no matter how you look at it. Legally he has to either give you your money back or provide you with what you were buying. And that doesn't mean 6 months from now...

Even thought the guy feels bad it was his responsibility to correctly identify what he was selling. Call him and tell him that you just want the money back and will be returning the 305 as soon as possible and that he should have your money ready.
It's not your fault that he misrepresented what he was selling or that he's already spent some of the money.

You might as well start documenting everything as it will come in handy in small claims court......

Stick it on craigslist..make a 50-150 quick and move one. Thats what i would do. less headache.
 
Blake, This is Jarrad, The guy with the possible right motor from the 94 tyler was talking about wants to know a ball park price range so he can tell his buddy. Anyways just let either me or tyler know when you get a chance, I know you gotta get this whole mess straightened out first.

already have, ive saved the ad and printed a copy, im threatining him with small claims court tomorrow...

i havent heard any info about this engine other than "might have found one"

I have a TBI 350 out of a 89 K5 it is pulled apart but i have everything for it just needs to be hottanked and new bearings for the cam and crank I can get the roller cam parts for it from a local yard I will give you a good price for the engine just PM me
 
He needs a roller cam 305 to work with his Tune port setup. Thanks for the offer, but a 350 wont work for his needs.
