Short arm vs Long arm

do they sell those at wal-mart?
i think they are in the womans section.

I'm shure I'm just a blisfully ignorant noob but really anything over 3 or 3.5" (is that what was said ?) and you need d.b's or L..A's to not ride like absolute trash??

I guess I may get flamed for this but my 4.5" short arm seems to ride way better than stock and I D.D.
I am going to trim to 33's and don't feel the need for the d.b.'s (at least for ride quality)

but maybe I'm blissfully ignorant? It rides nice to me

the problem is that "ride quality" is a relative term. what might be fine for you might not cut it for others, or vice versa.

wheeling > driving your jeep on your lawn once every 2 years

as subjective as ride quality is I am certainly not "putting up" with bad ride quality. And I'm at a bit over 4"

I wish there were more local xjs I'd like to ride in a similar height long arm..

my xj seems to ride as good as most cars and def. Better than stock. I could see problems going any higher and I'd want l.a.'s.

I also spent good $ on decent quality stuff and to get it to"feel right" ended up replacing all bushings joints motor/trans mounts (that weren't new from kit) to get it where I liked the ride.

but like I said I'm still learning but I would disagree that anything over 3.5 will ride like crap.. I'd say any taller than 4.5 would be crappy though.

my jeep buddies (cj/tj/yj) and my dad (ret. D.c. Automotive engineer ) have commented that mine rides surprisingly nice.

my family rides in the thing all the time and even my crabby grandma that allways complained about my wrangler riding like crap has never complained about the ride.

we even drove it 13hr (one way) a few times to my parents in co and it was fine (seats get uncomfy though).

maybe when I go to winterfest I can get someone to let me feel the difference on their l.a. And I can learn why I'm wrong..

if I had a trail rig I'd like a 6" -6.5 l.a. And I'd run 35's (and better axles)

btw I like the ramcharger I have an old Plymouth Trailduster and we rebuilt the 400 c.i. It's a monster someday I'd like to build it up a bit..

transfer case only has 4hi or 4hi locked or 4low or 4 low locked.. It's geared stupid low for highway use and I'm pretty shure it's stock..

Duh you can't see the crap radius arm setup from the front.

Take a pic from the side then we can show you.

This is my rig.

What's wrong with this?

(not my pic)

Is it because its different? Anything out of the norm. And you hate it.

Have you ran this?

I have, it's grate. Do you know how much pressure is put on the upper? Have you ever see one fail? ( in real life)

Go long arm! Iv made my own 3 link, and now I run IRO.

I love my long arm because:
I don't mess up bushings from binding at 6inchs
I don't bend uppers
Ride quality!!! I can safely fly down gravel roads trail to trail, with out feeling like my teeth are going to fall out.
I don't have to fight setting up the short arms ( I have a ZJ buddy who has tons of issues with it at 6 inches)

In my opinion if your 5inchs or taller go long arm.

I have a small Cherokee to, it will stay short arm at 3 inches.

3 link for the win, I don't see the point of a track bar and 4 points of contact on the axle. Factory was made that way, but that ok bc the uppers and lowers flex. Aftermarket ones dont.

3 link with a track bar in front and if you need 4 link in the rear no t bar.

This is my opinion based on building my own rigs from the ground up, I'm not rich so it's not about money ( I make 11 bucks an hour) don't wast time and money. Do it right the first time. And I'm not saying go 60s. That's not the way.

So much fail.

anyone who has gone from long arms to short with db's? People say short is better, they are cheaper, yet the only people I've seen who have run both currently run long arms. Basic reasoning wins argument IMHO. Tube buggies should just hang their mounts eally low and run short links? As far as the iro caster adjuster, I've beaten that dead horse, but I've seen pics of a failure that looked to me like it wasn't properly tightened. I run that kit on the wife's wj and have had no problems with it.
