Hey fellas, I'm going to be in Boston the weekend of the 21st for about 36 hours. I already have tickets to the Red Sox and Yankee game at Fenway on Saturday. But those are my only definite plans i have for my time there. I was hoping you guys to tell me what I should do and not do with the rest of my time in Boston ie. bars, restaurants etc etc. Ive never been to Boston before or the north east for that matter. But I am up for just about anything. Any help is great help thanks!

Some of us one here that belong to a local club will be doing some wheeling that Saturday if you'll be around. I should have an open seat as well. Where are you staying in Boston?

Well I am always down for some wheeling but I dont see it in the cards this trip. I have 2 buddies coming along with so that makes it even more tough. But thank you very much for the offer!

the game is at 4 so I would suggest that you plan to get to the fenway area around 2 to hit the bars in the area and lunch

good food in the fenway area:
-Tasty Burger, its an old jiffy lube turned into a kickass burger joint
-Yardhouse bad ass food and massive beer tap selection (180 taps)
-Boston Beer Works, brew pub
-Street Meat, classic fenway experience

good bars in fenway:
-cask n flagon (espn vote #1 sports bar or something like that)
-beerworks
-yardhouse
-coppperfields
-game on
-blecherbar, has a view from inside the center field wall, is small and gets packed quick as you can watch the game in person for free

Now what ever you do not drive to fenway there is little to no parking, just take the subway and goes right to the stadium and follow the hords of people walking to the stadium. take the green line, B, C, or D lines to Kenmore station. The E line does not go to Kenmore station

now for funtivies that you can do before the game, I would say check out the north end and quincy market lots of cool historical sits in that area to check out and get little shops to poke your head into to buy good new England sea food or bad ass Italian food. also prepare to walk every were, every thing in within a few minute walk from each other or just a quick hop on the subway

As for night drinking that will depend on where you are staying for good drinking, boston in made up of a bunch of little hubs that all have good bars and restaurants in them

All of these are good suggestions.

You CAN try to park near Fenway, but expect to pay $30-40 at least, and parking is limited so get there hours before if that's the plan. Overall, you definitely don't need a car to get around Boston. The T will be able to get you to all the spots that you'd want to see.

If you're looking for somewhere cheap before the game (keep in mind that beers are $8.50 in Fenway), I would suggest Copperfields. Pitchers are something like $15 on game days which is one of the better deals in the area.

After the game, Quincy Market would be a good suggestion if you've never been to Boston before, but expect it to be pricy. If you want to drink cheaper, head towards the outskirts of the city(Allston, Harvard Square, Mission Hill, etc). Can't go wrong with a duck tour or a freedom trail walk either.

Thanks guys this is GREAT help! Exactly what I am looking for! What about Mcgreevy's the Dropkick Murphys pub Im a DKM fan but I dont want to go to the touresty cheese ball spots you know? Also how close is the airport to Fenway?

Never been to McGreevy's, but there's a lot of other bars in that area, and you're not too far from Fenway.

Airport is in East Boston, a couple of miles away from Fenway.

the airport is about 6 road miles away so it will take any were from 15 to 30 minutes by taxi to go from the airport to fenway and be about $30 in fares

you can take public transportation from the airport by hoping onto a shuttle that wil take you to the blue line or hop on the silver line bus, which is just a bus that has its own special tunnels and will take about an hour to get to the fenway area. but after a 6 hour flight im sure the first thing you want to be doing is lugging your bags around trying it figure out how to navigate the T

My luggage will be at a minium thanks to the ridiculous baggage fees more than likely just a back pack. Now Im flying from LAX at 9 landing in Boston around 730ish Saturday morning. This might be the dumbest question yet but please forgive me I come from the L.A. area where public transportation is a joke here everyone and their mother drive everywhere. But if I flying in at like 7:15-7:30 am Saturday are the subways already up and running? :helpme: Thanks for the help fellas!

yes it will be, the first lines leave their first stations at ~5:30 am and the last trains leave their first stations at ~12:30 am

at logan some of the baggage claim areas there are silver automated ticket booths for the T and just pick up the bus on the curb side, you can also pay on the silver line bus with cash. all transfers from line to line are free if you switch in the same station

you can also use google maps and just change the mode of transportation to public transit

I have been here 25 years and have no clue how public transportation works.
