shifter push button ?

Anybody know if it's possible to eliminate the push button on the shifter for an auto trans? I know it's dangerous but I want to put in a different shifter knob, and not a push button one.

if its anything like my chevy, that push button connects to a rod in the middle of the shifter shaft... by keeping that shaft in the "down" position (pushed down) you could eliminate the lock.

I just pulled mine off to clean the shifter & I could move to any gear but the car wasnt running, so try removing it & shift

Mine has 94 old style shifter

I'll yank it off and see what it does. I really really want to put a rock knob on it or a b&m t-handle but it's freakin automatic. But jerry-riggin is ok with me

I tried to shift without depressing the anal beads...I mean rod inside and it's not gonna work. I guess I gotta jerry rig hardcore on this one.
