Sharp pains from weather change?

After 13 orthopedic surgeries with two broken necks and more screws and titanium than I want to know, yes I can predict the weather when I get up in the morning before looking out side. If you think is bad in your 20's, wait until you hit your 50's.

I raced motorcycles nationally as a profession for over two years. I always figure it would either kill me or it would heal. Boy way I wrong.

I came up with a defination of getting old. It is when half of what you have doesn't work anymore and the other half hurts.

It isn't a good thing when you are on a first name basis with your orthopedic surgeon and have put his kids through college. I got the chance to get even with him a bit. I took him wheeling and had him crying like a baby. That was one of the most fun days of my life. I told him....remember all those times you said it would feel like a little pinch....well paybacks are a bitch.

Yah - my wife's knees have put our orthopaedic surgeon through college.

Fortunately, he's a damned decent guy and has a good sense of humour. I'm going to miss him when he retired.

His career progression: Boston PD - Professor of Epidemology at Temple U - Orthopaedic surgeon. He got his Ph.D. while on BPD, and his MD while using the Ph.D. Rather twisted sense of humour - we understand each other quite well.

"That which does not kill me, hurts like a bastard."

Extension - "That which does kill me, hurts worse when I wake up."

No metal left in me, but I've been through the rest.

I was hit by a car when I was 12, and as a result I have 2 plates and several screws in my left arm, several screws in my pelvic bone, 2 bad discs in my lower back, and some heavy scar tissue in several places. It never used to bother me at all but as I am getting older I notice it more and more. Im only 29 now and there are days it is very hard to get out of bed. Working on a creeper for more than 15 minutes kills me too. Im only 29 now, cant WAIT to see what 50 will bring............

I remeber consulting with my wife's doctor shorly after we got married. I gave him a precis of everything that had happened up to that point (I didn't get clobbered this last time until about six years later.

He told me, "You're going to have a lot of pain when you get older."

My answer? "You go to Hell doc - I've got a lot of pain now."

Curtis, you just wait - you'll find out what it's like. Even by the time forty is in sight...

They say your only as old a you feel.

almost every joint in my body cracks... other than that, I don't feel old yet, though my fingers really, REALLY hurt to move if I let them get too cold.

Curious, how many of you old guys confidently stated in your younger years "I'd rather go out with a bang then get old and creaky"?

Inside every old guy is a young guy saying what the F happened.

So iv heard if you have had metal placed in your body from surgery, different weather can affect the way it feels? I have 3 bolts and rods running from my ancle to my knee both my fibula and fibula in my right leg, and every time it warms up or cools down outside it hurts like a SOB. So is this myth true? Or is it not a myth, but a real fact? Or am i just crazy?
Definitely not your imagination.

I broke my shoulder. No metal, but I feel aches in my shoulder when the weather changes.

I broke my Femur when I was 12, Spiral fracture knee to hip and separated joints in both...
No metal required for horrible pain spring, fall, and rainy days...
I would say its the worst when its cold at night, and hot during the day.
Hurts like a SOmb

Heh, I can't wait.
The question I have, is there really a count down on concussion's like on that "not another teen movie" Is there a magic number of knocks to the head that a person can take before they turn into a veggie?
I am running at 3 minor and 1 major...I have given serious consideration to wearing a helmet at all times...

I read this much, so I guess I might as well chime in too.

No, it's not a myth. I may not be able to prove it to anybody else, but my right ankle (surgically repaired), both knees (arthritic), both shoulders (one truck flip, one who knows) tell me it's true.

I've also found that some static activities cause as much or more pain than most exercises; regardless of weather conditions. Squatting while laying tile or working on the heep hurts the knees/ankle more than skiing. Sleeping on my side hurts the shoulder(s) more than chopping firewood or swinging a framing hammer, but push-ups are worse than either.

I'm not an expert on concussions either, but there are too many variables (from person to person and hit to hit) to say that there is a "magic number".
