Shackle Relocaters: Good or Bad/ Worth it or Not

The pic devilfrog posted is what you want. Shoot for a 45°angle.
I tried doing that with stock shackles, went to costco and on the way home hit a bump. The shaackles inverted, and stayed that way until i got home and took that pic.

The shackle is there to facilitate the spring flattening out, and getting longer in the process.
the stock shackles do not have a large enough arc to allow the spring to fullu compress, wothout running out of travel.

Most lifted xj's have a near vertical shackle at ride height. When the shackle is vertical, the majority of the force from bumps in the road is transferred upward, making for a rough ride. Lay the shackle back at a 45, and the suspension can absorb much more of the force. Down travel is also improved with far less posabilaty of inverting a shackle.

Souske I'm asking now, isn't that what you want and the purpose of the relocates like in the pic? I would think you want them just short of vertical 35* to 40* degree incline to the rear for ride which still allows greater droop as opposed to the short stock shackle & it's vertical position? Obviously the picture you posted is in the extreme and does not allow for bump absorption as well as potential inversion!

Ok that's what I thought I didn't want to say 45" because I thought the ride would.be sacraficed pulling rearward on the main.

Oceanjet those are friction pads so the leafs don't wear or squeak. In the old days there would be a shim or just plain grease.

Precisely, although in my case with my crusty old bastard pack ... they just stop squeaks. Planning to grab a new set of Dakota leaves in better shape and find a decent XJ mainleaf eventually for the next set down the road. But as for ride I'm actually close to stock ride quality with the relocators and current shackle angles. Never would have been able to say that with a stock mount point and any shackle (before the relocators the shackle was near vertical and she rode like a buckboard).

Thanks, seems like a pretty solid mod
