As you guys know I was wanting to get some better seats in my XJ. The plan was to install some 2000 XJ cloth seats into my 1988. The morning of Ed-Fest came around and we found that we had 2 passenger seats so we put in a early model seat. Unfortunately it has a broken side bolster.

I was outside looking through the XJ's for a AW4 flexplate (sorry Doug I only have 3 flywheels) when I spotted a driver side cloth seat from a 2000 XJ. Somehow we overlooked it the morning of Ed-Fest I guess.

Well, this has got me to thinking about upgrading my seats again. I have been searching NAXJA for an hour and can't seem to get the right combination of words together to see what it takes to install late model seats and/or bases into a 1988 XJ. I found a lot of threads saying you can use ZJ seats but that isn't what I have or am interested in doing at the moment.

Now I posted this here first since I know SEC guys won't chew my butt for not "searching". Does anyone have a good link showing exactly what it would take to install these later model XJ seats in my 1988?

What year seats will bolt right into my XJ. It seems like I did find that 1995 to 2001 are interchangeable. Does that mean that 1987 to 1994 are interchangeable?

Actually IIRC the 84 up to 94 are all the same.

I used a piece of 90* angled steel to adapt from a late model seat to early floorboard. Very easy to do. I will look and see if I have pictures.

When I had my 92 i put the seats from a 97+ in it by simply bending the mount a little bit. The 97+ seats have that square channel that the front mounts to. I just cut a section out of the ribbing and folded it over so it would mount to the flat floor, then drilled a couple of holes for the new wider rear mounting points.
