Sealing coilovers going through your interior?

What's the best way to seal it around a coil over? I was going to have the sheet metal meet the floor board at the base of the shock hoops and notch it for them but then there's the coilover springs flexing in the middle.
I could cut a whole in some rubber slide it down the shock and rivet it to the sheet metal. Or maybe a shifter boot like thing over the top of the shock which would probably seal a lot better but be much uglier.

I tried googling solutions but I haven't had any luck.
don't mind the interior junk :)

Can you box it with sheet metal so the entire upper mount/coilover are technically outside the jeep?

Do able and probably better so things don't get pinched in the springs.
I also run into this up front.

I never really thought about the moving springs being a bad idea inside. Or making the inner fender well up to that point then have the box around it.

Though less sexy that seems solved. What should I do for the front?

Seems like it would allow you to keep the inside "inside" and not have to worry about what is binding and getting stuck/damaged

but i have NO IDEA what will fit your needs. just my initial thought lol

I like your initial thought lol I dunno why I was stuck on them being inside and having a one piece fender well. It won't work for the front though =/ I need something to go around.

can you cycle the front to find the total range of motion out of the coilover, make a "cone" that is welded to coilover mount and widens as it goes down to fender well allowing for the coilover to move inide of it. no loss of room ultimately, cuz the coilover would be going wherever that "cone" is welded in place

Well It couldn't go up to the mount but maybe to the top of the spring. I don't have a good picture of it but my master cylinder is very close to the spring. My ideal solution would be going through something on this it may not be a perfect seal but it is just the engine compartment.

whats the specs on your shocks?
i am thinking of adding coil overs to my p.o.s.
i wouldn't worry about closing the fronts.
maybe just pop rivet or weld some formed flat sheet to close up the gaping hole a bit.

14" 2.5 175/200 in the rear, I don't remember the rate up front. Give Poly perfromance a call and talk to mike if you can. They change it for the weight of what you haul around ie. spare tire, cage, toolbox, deceased prostitutes.

Cuz we all have those in the back of our jeeps.....next to the high lift and lug wrench

Yeah Poly automatically adds the weight of one to your spring rate but we all have different preferences and you don't want your shocks too stiff because you only brought a midget.

Anyway... Thanks XJchris for sending me this. I think upfront I'll try this maybe rear depending on how I want my wheel wells. Kinda looks like they used toilet plungers :D

Hey I saw your post about sealing coilovers that come through the interior, but couldnt reply in that thread (not a red member).

Anyways, I saw this idea awhile ago and thought it would work pretty good. I cant remember who originally did this, so I cant give credit where credit is due.

I realize they're just shocks and not coilovers, but there might be a way to adapt this to work with coilovers too. Good luck!

Anyone know whos build that is?

Something like this may work for the top but you would still need to build the inner fender around the coilover. Like in4aride said cycle it and see how much room you have.

7" inside diameter on the bottom about 5" tall. Its a freightliner shift boot
part#HUN 68D885 $6.91 a piece.
Just my .02
